This pack contains everything you need to add controller support including button prompts to Deadly Premonition: The Directors Cut on PC.

This is only possible thanks to the amazing work of Durante on his DPfix patch - http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/

To install -

1. Download and install DPfix from this link - http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/

2. Be sure to change this line from 0 to 1 in the DPfix.ini -

enableTextureOverride 1

3. Copy the "96cad142.png" file into the following folder -

Deadly Premonition The Director's Cut\dpfix\tex_override

Now to choose which controller mapping software to use. Pinnacle is the better software but some people already have Xpadder and do not want to buy Pinnacle too, so I am including an Xpadder profile too.


*** PINNACLE ***

Buy from here (free trial is available) and install - http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/

Once you have installed Pinnacle and set up your controller I strongly reccomend you goto Preferences -> Command and uncheck "Apply acceleration to Joystick movements". Aiming is MUCH better without it. Then -

1. Launch Pinnacle and goto Game Profiles.

2. Select Import and import the "Deadly Premonition.pin" file.

3. Name it anc click OK and IMPORT. Click OK.

4. Make sure youb select either the correct profile for your controller and click play. Try moving the left stick to see if you can move the mouse pointer. If you can then launch Deadly Premontion and play :)


*** XPADDER ***

You can buy Xpadder from here - http://xpadder.com/

1. Simply open the "Deadly Premonition.xpadderprofile" and you are ready to launch the game!

The aiming in my profiles is just as good as native controller support. Xpadder is jittery at resolutions over 720p. Pinnacle is much smoother for mouse aiming. You get what you pay for. Try the free trial for yourself.

@Billy Magnum. Are you using the old free version of Xpadder? Can you share what you have to change the version number to so I can include that for people that don't want to buy it?

cant remember if its the free version. ive had it seemingly forever. ill check. i just changed it to what the program's version was. mine is 5.7 i believe.

I think the free version is 5.4. I tried it but it conflicted with mine so I couldn't test it. Would love to include a version for frugal people ;)

The company really should use these mods from the community and incorporate them into an official patch. Not everyone is going to know how to do this, or that such mods exist. Installing them is very inconvenient for many people.

How does the 'running around' feels like when using your controller?
As I understand, this is emulating the keyboard by replacing WASD, so doesn't that feel quite chunky without native pad pressure support?

Still have this game sitting in my library :-(

I'm going to be honest, it kinda sucks. They REALLY need to patch really controller support in so we have analogue movement.

But for now, this is better than nothing.

I acually never expected analog movement from the PC version of Deadly Premonition as think the Xbox360 version didn't have analog movement, gas and steering too. Correct if I'm wrong (anyone who may knows it better).

the company isnt going to do squat. its up to us. anyone who bought the game for pc is bound to come across the mods sooner or later and implementing them is about a kindergarten as mods can get. its all spelled out clearly in the readme's and this entire forum is here to help.

The free one would not map my controller because of the paid version. So could not test the profile at all.

UPDATED to 1.1 - Fixed a few issues. See readme.

It's not working for me. I have DPFix and I use Pinnacle, when play the game the two analogs work, but the rest of the buttons don't.

You can use JoyToKey to set up controls, why buy a payed software for that?

Easy, because they are better. Have advanced options, better UI and a host of pre-created profiles.

However I will add a JoyToKey profile, for the frugal among us. :)

I think JotToKey has auto profile loading too actually. Even does it based on window focus, which is cool.

My issue with JTK is that it's UI is ugly. And I already own Xpadder and Pinnacle so why would I go with an inferior one just because it's cheaper (or free if you refuse to pay the dev).

You're totally right. But I don't want to cash out $10 for a software I use for 1 game, and I don't want to pirate it either.

By the way here is my profile for JoyToKey. But I had to change 1-2 controls opposed to your onscreen prompt mappings. Maybe someone finds it useful:
