Locks up in Harry's Mansion
I've managed to find workarounds for many crashes and managed to make it to the chapter where you have to go to Harry's Mansion.

Now, once I'm inside the Mansion, it crashes when I simply open the first door. This is consistent. Is there a way around this?

I tried running the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode. I tried turning DPFix both on and off. Nothing works. I'm unable to proceed.

I have yet to get past the crash on chapter two. I say ♥♥♥♥ it. This is the worst port ever and should be fixed or taken down, the end.

Don't bother. I finally got past the beginning and made it to the chase scene at the end, but it runs impossibly unresponsive.. he keeps catching you, you escape, move about 3 pixels forward, and repeat. I spent literally 15 minutes crossing a room only to have it screw up and force me to reload. It is unplayable..

Ahh, sorry, I meant the bar after Harry's house. And I was able to get past it by loading dp.exe in admin/win98 mode and windowed. Windowed was the key thing.. everything ran smooth. Get past it, save your game, and reload in fullscreen (until next f-up).

Strange as it sounds I found temporarily setting compatability mode to Windows 7 helped me get past a lot of the crash points. This is on a Windows 7 64bit machine. The game doesn't run too well in that mode however but at least it let me progress.

I'm not big on the choppiness of compatibility mode (I used it for Win98), but it at least works. I was able to eventually beat the game and earn every achievement.

Have you tried skipping the cutscene by hammering the escape key? I had a similar problem in the A&G with the string of 5 or so cutscenes there, and eventually just hammering the escape key before the game had a chance to freeze got me through it.

Of course, it's less than ideal a situation, especially since Harry's mansion is around the time that the plot starts spelling out details, but skipping the cutscene and looking up the cutscene on Youtube might be what you need to do.

That being said, I totally had the same lock-up like... thirty minutes ago, and switching to XP (SP2) compat let me through first time.

I also think I saw like a 10-15 FPS increase but that might just be my imagination.

I haven't had to fix anything until harry's mansion
Same problem, can't open the first door in Harry's mansion without crashing.
Setting compatibility to XP SP3 did the trick

You guys should try smoking and letting time pass a bit.Worked for most crashes on my end.A couple of hours would suffice i reckon.

Edit:I mean in-game of course. You should avoid smoking in real life.
