Controller Axis issues

Hello,
I was wondering if someone else was having this issue as well?
When I'm playing deadly premonition at my PC, I've been able to use a wired Xbox 360 Controller. However, the controller axis is all wrong. I press Up and Down on the Right Control Stick to look Left and Right. Left and Right control Up and Down. Is there a way to fix this?

I've been trying to get Deadly Premonition to work over Steam Link but it doesn't find my controller. I've tried using the Wired Xbox 360 Controller plugged directly into the Steam Link, but that doesn't seem to work either. I also have a Playstation Dual Shock 3 Controller that I've been alble to use for all of my other games but it doesn't seem to work either...

I'm in the same boat as you. I'd rather play it than watch a longplay on YouTube and beg for a Steam refund, but I'm gradually losing interest in bothering with this game at all. Full controller support on the Store Page is not only misleading; it's a blatant lie.

Installed Durante's Fix last night and sadly, right out of the box, Durante's fix doesn't address the controller issue.

I stumbled across a crude fix. I'm using an Xbox 360 controller by the way.

Open Steam's Big Picture mode.
Go to your library and choose this game. Don't play it yet.
Go to Manage Game > Controller Configuration.
Press X (Browse Configs) on the controller.
Scroll down to Community and press Y (Show Other Controller Types).
Choose the Steam controller config by Tycho that says "camera workaround."
You'll receive a warning, but choose OK.
Press X (Apply Configuration).
Back out a few screens and play the game.

Looking left and right is fine. You'll notice that looking up and down is jittery and imperfect, but it works for now. However, I'd imagine the stuttering will become annoying eventually. I hope this works for you until we find a better solution.

got something, changed my gamepad and it had issue with a few title.
in win 10 open settings - peripheral (the one where your printer gamepad and other stuff appear) - on the right there is an advanced menu- clic on your gamepad icon - right clic on the first option (i'm not using an english version of windows, it state gamepad properties for me) and set the pad as the default/preferred in the advanced tab.
now it should work properly.

This is an old topic, but I got the same problem. My solution is to change the layout of the controller in steam controller settings. Just switch the axis for the right stick. This is a bit annoying though, since it will switch the axis for every other game as well.

I know Im very late, but I followed this guide and it led me to one of the community controller settings, specifically the controller + located in the steam community controls. it fixes the axis!

Easy fix here for xbox one controllers. No need to change windows settings or download third party software. Before playing Deadly Premonitions go to steam settings, general controller settings.

You will probably have xbox controller settings enabled, and generic controller settings enabled with the ticks next to them. I did in my case. Disable/untick xbox controller settings but leave generic controller settings tick enabled.

Now load up the game and the up down/ left right Axis should be working properly now. When you finish playing go back to general controller settings and enable the tick for xbox controller settings back on so that your other games don't get any problem. Just untick it before playing DP and you'll be fine!

Just to note, the 'solution' i mentioned above worked for me last week, but now it isn't. The movement sticks and d-pad don't detect at all when i disable xbox one controller.

However, the good news is I managed to find a working fix by keeping xbox one and generic controller ticked on, but also selecting deadly premonition controller + fix from the community configurations. So I am able to play properly with controller again which is cool.

Probably gonna see if I should reopen this topic for a more helpful answer, cause I have the same issue & used the same answer. But I wish for the added benefit of joystick usage. Effectively the perfect answer would be to swap the X & Y Axis, but unfortunately that isn't available to us as of this comment (a lot of issues could be resolved with an axis trade, I wish it was an option in the overlay). I wish someone could mod the game to do just that, or the developers actually fix the issue (among other issues the game suffers from).
