Yeah. It has to be the pipe being used. The thing doesn't do anything else otherwise. So, you know, Chekhov's gun and all that.
I feel a bit daft for not considering it before, always got the impression that Jimmy tries to use the pipe to block the door's handle lock alongside the rope, but it actually makes a lot more sense that he smacks Swansea with the pipe after he breaks the window and tries reaching in, so that's probably it.
