Spoilers but wanted to discuss this
I think jimmy in the end knew he was irredeemable, and no matter what he ♥♥♥♥♥♥ everything over
While obviously yes terrible people like him usually know they are awful but still
I think the moment he realizes this is during his whole breakdown chapters where everything is just happening in his head... so around the time he shoots Swansea
Him Killing himself was not just him knowing there wasn't a way out but him trying to make up what he had done to everyone, also the times the words "I hope this hurts" are flashed onto the screen could be him hoping that him pulling the trigger on himself hurt a lot
Idk though this is probably just me thinking too hard

i think its more a final act of manipulation towards curly--pitting him with survivors guilt, playing the hero by "killing the monster" (since Everyone wants to see him that way!), as well as a final act of running away from his issues (something that jimmy has been doing the whole game. even the circumstances of his suicide are him escaping responsibility for his actions)

he wasnt really trying to make things right. he was a bad guy to the end. he just wanted to mess with curlys head one last time because he felt scared and powerless.

Starting to think I’m just coping because I don’t want to have played as just an irredeemable bastard

Yeah but curly isn’t all innocent himself given how he sort of enables jimmy

I'm gonna refuse to believe Jimmy was able to kill swansea in the end for the sole reason that he's so incompetent he would've wasted all of his bullets in a frantic fight. Just to cope

I think Jimmy shoots himself for the same reason he crashed the ship to begin with, he lost control of the situation and refused to "take responsibilty".

He felt that taking himself out and taking control of everyone else's lives was the answer rather than taking accountability for what he's done.

When he gets fired he decides to take out the whole ship, when they survive he blames it on Curly, when he finds out Anya is pregnant her first thought is he will kill her, when Anya locks herself away he makes Daisuke deal with it, after everyone dies due to his incompetence and abuse he shoots himself.

Jimmy really is just irredeemable

The weird thing about it is that he already has Swansea disarmed and tied to a chair, he didn't have to shoot him, he just didn't want to acknowledge that Swansea was right

I recall it being somewhat inconsistent whether or not he was tied to the chair or not, though I imagine he had to shoot him to subdue the guy. But I can't tell
