Multiple monitors
Do I need to buy the DRM free version in order to run multiple copies of the client so I can run on multiple monitors or is there any way to do this with the Steam install? I'm kind of starting to feel like buying this on Steam might have been the wrong choice...

If you mean on your own system then no. You just need to browse to the file .exe itself and execute it via your own personnel shortcut. That way you can have 2+ copies running at once.

I'm probably missing something, but the .exe won't launch unless Steam is running and if Steam is running it won't let me launch more than 1 instance.

It should be possible. Try running the .exe as administrator.
