Stats past 16

How do you get stats above 16? I'm loving the game, but there's a lot not explained.

If you look on the Achievements page from the main men, you'll see 17 is unlocked by surviving with a character with 16 in that stat. 18 is unlocked by defeating the Harbinger with a character with 17 in that stat.

You unlock the game's in-game achievements for "Survive" ... my map in the guides has a section explaining how to "survive."
