Can a dev explain this logic please
Why is defense capped ? This means against any enemy that can do more than 12 damage defeats all defense builds. For instance I make a frost mage build (Con+Int) and I generate large amounts of defense because I've built a good deck I'm punished for taking cards like Superiority (blocking gives mana) because its literally impossible to block the damage and I'm already being punished because I generate way more than 12 defense over 1 or 2 turns. Damage sure as hell isn't capped, I dont get the defense cap it feels mind meltingly stupid and a ♥♥♥♥ mechanic like if your going to do this at least double the cap. Frost build is just useless because high level enemies are impossible to block.

I found that using various events on the map and in towns I could boost my HP higher, unlocking higher potential defence.

Additionally, try to find a copy of "Final Blow" (might not be the exact name, something like that), a 5 damage mid Con requirement card that destroys on use, but gives +1 Max HP if it is used to kill an enemy. I finished a recent run with well over 80 health. Could have had higher if I'd played out the whole run, but went early so I could defeat the boss before he begins the plague.

With such high health, I had very high potential defence.

Yeah defense is fairly weak, but it's stronger than the randomness of evasion. There is some correlation between your health level and how much defense you can have.
