Anyway, avoiding spoilers, yes the game essentially tells you you won at that point.
I have seen similar dialog when I have ran into him randomly in the world. Choosing to fight throws you against him @lvl 50 with 300HP. When he swings for like 20 dmg its hard to beat. Feel like I'm missing a mechanic somewhere to either extend the run or weaken him. Like getting the item he's looking for before him or something.
Legend is achieved by killing him before the timer on the top right runs out. probably best to do it around turn 200~ when you are as strong as you can be. (at that point he is in the westernmost end of the (howling wastes?)
There is a unspoken mechanic where each bounty you complete gives you 5 more turns before the plague. I am unsure about how many you could potentially get since they seem to be on a cooldown and only appear in about the last 50~ turns.
The most i have completed are 3.
They are also a great way to get rations to cull your deck at the keep (top right paladin place) before you challenge him.
In addition once you reach enough reputation with a region: Dwarves, Paladins, Elves, Rural humans and the main city you get a unique card. I belive its at 10'000 reputation (though i didn't check it after the 5'00 mark until i got the popup that they wanted to talk to me.
The only one i have completed so far is the Paladins and that card was an innate always active heal 2 every turn of combat. So i think it will be something similar for each of them.
Might be +1 mana per turn for elves, +defence per turn for dwarves or something to that effect
I would also suggest to try to always give supplies to places you rescue from occupation, you seem to get 1'000 instead of 750 rep, but they seem to pop up twice when i do it so it might be 2'000 and 1'500 instead.
