so I hit sector 80 about 24 hours ago and since there isn't a lot of discussion on late game content I thought I would post my observations of that initial period.

First off, all the various bonuses are helpful, especially right at the start of the game when you have no other ones.

the first two bases being fully unlocked immediately, combined with the base production bonuses meant that those very quickly started adding real value.

I think the biggest thing that helped me keep the momentum up though was warp. Warp synch is incredibly powerful. I sat on my warp charges when I first unlocked warp and only used the first charge when I knew I could get multiple new levels, the first two or three times I warped I timed out the portal pushing levels. This meant that each time I warped provided a huge boost and rapidly ramped up my warp multiplier and the amount of warp essence I got. Highly recommend you don't just warp as soon as you can and wait until you are slowing down/can get max benefit from the next charge.

I only unlocked crew again recently, but the extra slot and sleeves should really help get that progressing more quickly. I don't know if having a 5th crew out will be more valuable than using those mastery points for a different upgrade.

Hey, if you wanted to give some direct feedback: on the 16th of march patch, in the news section along the bar at the top of the page you're reading now there is a link to a survey looking for feedback about late game specifically.

I enjoyed R1 for the same reasons too, and was nearly always out of warps the whole time because I used them as I got them. Didn't make that mistake on R2.

Additional tipp for that: The later warps have a higher starting point, so instead of leveling a lower warp you can just do a later warp once and skip 10+ levels, which would take 3 or more warp cores otherwise.

I don't think I ever had that situation but I could certainly see it happening on reinforce 2 or higher.

Even on R4 i didn't spend a warp core at the start until i reached a new node. it makes speeding to 74 much much easier as you can establish your crew with only a few warp cores and get he reduced warp times from Vshards/crew so you don't have to sit and wait. i got back to 85+ 24hours into R4 and that is one of the reasons it's better. also making sure you keep fully loaded on warp cores before you transition to the upgrade and use them when you hit a warp milestone or significant jumps. (no consumables used until sector 88)
