Sorry if I can't be more accurate. Know that this isn't a bug. Continue to play and unlock other elements of the game and it will all click together.
PS : This game is worth the patience. Some parts are faster than others. Often, I only log once or twice a day and let the game run offline.
This is the kind of incremental game ("idle" game) that you either leave running in the background if you want to speed things up a bit and change some things around when you're stuck, or only log in every once in a while to see if you got some progress done and change things around if you seem to be stuck.
I'm at T3 synth right now, and things seemed to take, at least at first, weeks to max out. The problem was I had not gotten enough synth speed upgrades, once I started messing around with the generator and warps, what took weeks ended up only taking a day and a half when running three synth slots of the same item.
