I usualy don't have any problems...but a day, or so, ago..the game started to crashing very randomly... Sometimes after a few minutes...sometimes after an hour, or so... Very random...
Oh, and I'm around sector 22-23 (not very far, I know)...
Thnx for that advice.. :)
Problem is that the crashes started after I've disabled those...
BUT...now the crashing have, afaik, know stopped...
Probably some crap with my system...
whenever I click the "go to desktop" button on my taskbar (very bottom right corner) so as to hide all current windows and access whatever files/folders are on my desktop or whatever else I'm doing on it, the game has a high chance of crashing. it didn't do that before the update, but does it a lot now.
I have task manager open all the time, and I've tried to check what's happening during the crash, but other than a minor spike in disk usage (only jumps from 0 to ~30) I haven't noticed anything particularly telling.
it doesn't happen *every* time I click the button. it crashed when doing so before I decided to write this up, but upon trying to get it to crash by clicking it a few more times right now, it's behaving, so it's likely a combination of the game running for a while and forcefully bringing up the desktop. *may* also be related to RAM usage? last time I tested this a few times, my background RAM usage was higher I was able to consistently crash the game even after a fresh boot. today windows updated and forcefully reset my PC, though, so the memory leaks have all been cleared out.
I'm currently only in sector 32, and the crashing started around the mid-20s. I do have shadows enabled, but my gpu also seems to be doing just fine with the game right now (and I do have a 1660 TI - not current-tech, no, but not exactly a slouch, either)
I cant think of anything in recent updates that would increase the frequency of something like this but always something I can miss.
all I know is that, after I updated the game essentially for the first time, I started to have some crashes only when I click the "switch to desktop" button. the update is just the time-frame for when it started happening, and may not have anything to do with why I'm crashing.
also, sorry for the late reply, steam didn't notify me of the reply until just now lol
backup your current save in a separate folder then replace it with the most recent backup save. many of us have had to do this at one point. if the problem persists only the dev can help
also run a steam file check on teh game and posibly a clean install after backign up save folders
To add to this, renaming savegame.save and savegamebk.save should be enough to get the game to let you select a save, then try loading one of those or osme other backup
renaming them to what? anything?
edit: renaming didnt help, it still crashes when i rename them both, tried renaming the cloud save file too and it stil lcrashes, i was able to barely close the while you were away window, and click load, the load window opened up but the game crashed right after, it doesnt stay open long enough for me to select a previous backup/save. id like to keep messing around with the game, but its not the end of the world if i cant. games like these i just like to speed through for awhile to distract myself, so if its broken for me forever then its whatever i guess.
edit2: turning off cloud sync brought up the new game/load save screen, loading a backup worked, when i tried loading the hourly save it immediately crashed on the while you were away screen, idk what changed but i guess something in the last hour save broke the game and caused it to crash. guess ill just have to re-start from a couple hours before my last manual backup
Feel free to send me the save via discord or the support email you can get to through steam help (for this game specifically of course) and I can look at it. I think email might block it in its normal format so zip it up if you do that option.
