How does Manifest Shard work?

Hello there!

Manifest Shard has a different look when it comes to shard slots. Currently, mine has a filled in blue square while the red, yellow and pink squares are empty. As a result it seems I can only put my Manifest Shard in the blue slot, not in the red, yellow or pink slots. It also seems that this isn't fixed by prestige.

Could anyone explain how the Manifest Shard works? I didn't see any explanation in game

that means it cannot be placed there, but the effect will activate if linked to that color

Solid color means you can place it in the slot. so to activate the other colors you have to link it. Manifest shard is the first like that.
