How to un-focus research?

Yes, just that - how do I un-focus on a branch in research?
I've tried everything from clicking, rightclicking, shiftclicking, controlclicking, altclicking, and clicking with my nose... Nothing seems to work.

you don't - there will always be one focused. if you want to unfocus a branch, you have to focus a different branch. you don't have to unfocus a branch to focus another, it will just switch automatically.

Alright, I just found it strange, when I first got research I had none focused. Once I focused on one, I can't not have one focused anymore. The mouse-over tip says that you CAN focus for certain bonuses. But oh well, at least I know other people has come to peace with the forced focus. :)

Yea it gets everyone. The rational that if your "unfocused" they would all go up at the same pace vice a funnel into a single aspect.

Really really long time ago the Dev posted that the unfocused was just an extra bonus but admitted it didn't make much difference in the long run as you have to min max everything eventually. this is also more obvious as that went away with Capital and Specimen research.

What was your reason for wanting to deselecting a focus?

You can look at it as "forced", but it's more like you unlock the ability to focus and in a perfect world you would focus them all if you could, you know because of the bonus to research for the focused thing.

I just got to sector 37 and only now realized I never focused a branch. In my head I thought focusing a branch meant taking away from the others, so never even considered it.

Eventually you'll get an unlock that makes them all "focused".

I'd suggest, "Boosted" research as a replacement word but... this game uses boost in so many places?

Augment. Magnify. Amplify. Enhance. Promote. Nurture. Stimulate.

There's loads of synonyms for "boost" to name only a few.

For what it's worth, this isn't the first time I saw someone ask this question.
