base 3 - drain reducers
just unlocked based 3.

what are drain reducers supposed to do?

I was expecting it to reduce the consumption cost of the parts and components cells so you can get a balanced production chain, but putting one next to a part of components cell doesn't alter anything when hovering over the adjacent cells, nor in the overall output.

confused...

They do exactly what you expect - they reduce the (input) resource cost for Parts and S. Components tiles.

Note that they work in an X pattern, so you have to place them diagonally next to a tile for them to take effect. Once placed, you should notice the reduction if you hover over a tile (Compared to the drain when no drain reducer is placed).

What's a good starting layout for base 3?

Seems like I can't figure out how to unlock another module beyond the default in less than 138 days.

If I go all building mats, it's 138 days:

If I try to add parts, even with a drain reduce, it's 1 year to first unlock:

And there doesn't seem to be any valid way to start making s components or everything will be infinite for next unlock.

Most likely you're quite close to unlocking some way of increasing your base production, or you're overlooking a way that you could already do it.

You can do the 3rd Base Carry challenge very early on, that helps a bit. None of those links are valid so can't see what you're working with.
From what I remember of early Base 3 there's not a lot of difference between just filling each slot with greens or using boosters. And make sure you have the Base Shard in your VDevice.
Usually the answer is to just maximize Building Material production and level it up for a while, I went from 10+ years away from Level 4 Cores to 185 days in several hours by just leaving my base set up for Building Mats.

You can't use boosters at the start of base 3, there's no boxes open next to each other

Oh yea, it wants you to unlock them in a really weird order with minimal booster use. I think just set it up to maximize Building Mats spend a few hours leveling that up, you want a few more Building slots before you try to get the first Parts slot (which should be when the game says you can do the 3rd Base Carry), because the drain from Parts is going to pretty much negate your Building production even with Drain Reduce until you can get some boosted Building.

Not hours, months. 138 days before the next block is unlocked

That time will go down as you upgrade your Building Mats.

You're not supposed to just sit on the default Base waiting months to unlock a single node, you spend Building Mats to upgrade your Building Mats production until it no longer reduces the time until you can open another node. THEN you wait.

Why are you looking at the next block from the very beginning while you are still producing 1/s with each green block? First check how much it costs to upgrade the green block.

In Warps you should be getting close to base 3 production upgrade (6x) and another close base 3 production upgrade is in Synth (3x). And then all bases production in Warps. Combining these three and buying upgrades, not slots (until you can afford them after the single night), will let you progress in base 3. But in the beginning it's just improving green blocks production at the base itself.

Also somewhere around 7-9 blocks unlocked base-related challenge will start blinking green meaning it will be pretty easy to complete it.

Note: you also seem to be looking at the wrong block. You look at the one that costs 6e7 while at the bottom there are two that cost 6e5, 100x times less.

your not ment to unlock everything when you just got the bases.

keep sector clearing and you well find outside influenes to bloster your base stats.

but you could try all green or top row as reducers they stack, if you want to add in yellow but just green it and keep going.

Another thing to check is the Base Carry challenge, because its reward is really good.
