Maybe you don't have the "advanced" tab yet?
Also advanced tab is maxed.
that might be what you are seeing
Doesnt work in compute challange.
The salvage to speed up your compute speed does work in the compute challenge and can be really useful later on - though I would turn off the option to set it to 1% of your income if you have that unlocked cause it gets wonky.
But yeah, if you have every single bar maxed then the only other thing you can really do is get higher tier weapons cause they give more damage per level.
We were talking about pickups.
Anyway, there is one more way to increase your income and that's with the CS crew member, but even with that it caps your gains at around 1e27 salvage per second. Sadly, it doesn't seem like extra computer levels per bar fill increases salvage gain either, so it just takes forever to get enough scrap to push the challenges.
Good news are, there is a bonus from a crew to help with maxed advanced computing, and challenges 8 and 9 end at stage 19 and 20. Cyber specialist crew member at 50 skill points unlocks a skill for +1e4 computing level cap, and bonus to levels gained multiplier skill.
Thing with "levels per bar fill" multiplier is it's not limited by any caps but is scarce to get. There is a little bit on compute shard in blue slot, a bit more on a certain end game synth module, and the rest on the CS crewman. It will take some grind with 5 and eventually 2 minute warp charge times to by free skill points for him but at that stage of the game you'll be doing such shenanigans on the regular basis :P.
The last thing is core system selection. This challenge requires you to be very deliberate about tiers. At this point you'll have no problems getting level 110+ for tier 2 weapons and I won challenge 8 with tier 2 and 10 hours wave count grind (for x13 damage and shields, IIRC). My setup was charge laser, beam laser, and 4 ordinary laser cannons. Laser cannons are great for laser boost upgrades, +200% shield damage perks and x4 to all beams perks. So the setup was basically a super boosted rapid fire charge laser.
For 9 I think it would take some tier 3 equipment. At level 60 tier 3 starts to outperform tier 2 (especially with wave count perk) but you need level 70 perks for weapons to make them effective (nuke for the charge laser, synergy perk on cannons). Maybe it's possible to get away with tier 3 charge laser and tier 2 laser cannons.
^Thank you btw, very helpful :D
Edit: As a side note, this was about the time that I already have all Base slots, and unlocked all crew member types, and usually getting to a "Compute" tab "Damage Boost / Shield Boost" of at least "1.00e15x" (so maybe I started much MUCH later).
For Core Compute 8/9, I was able to get Tier 3 weapons and shields to Levels 110+.
The damage boost from the laser cannons and the combo of beam laser + charge laser (4 laser cannons, 1 beam laser, 1 charge laser) is what got me past Stage 19 (for Core Compute 8/9).
For Core Compute 9/9, what worked for me was to use the same setup as Core Compute 8/9 UNTIL you reach the last stage (this is Stage 21). At this point, you'll want to Retrofit to have 4x Kinetic Cannons, and 2x Bomb Launcher, and just spec the Kinetic Cannons to have just +damage to everything (EMP Mode = Shield Damage 1.75x, Armor Damage Synergy = All Armor Damage +20%, Fire Support = All Kinetic Damage x1.3), while Bomb Launchers have the highest damage possible (used Mega Bombs = Damage x2.2, Fire Rate x0.8).
Now, the next tricky part was actually getting TO the boss, so I tried out a method that seems... "cheesy", but I hope it's ok.
Going to the "Reactor" tab, turn on "Boost Engine" when advancing / moving forward, but when you're about to get knocked out / retreat, turn it off, then turn it on again when moving forward until you get "Threat Imminent" boss warning. Since I had a problem eliminating the mobs, what I did was the moment I got the "Threat Imminent" warning, I saved and quit the game, and re-opened it to continue the fight with JUST the boss (no mobs). After a few attempts, was able to finally finish Core Compute 9/9.
I hope this helps (if there's a much easier / better method, I would like to know. Thought of sharing my experience to hopefully get some people through this challenge once and for all... or until an update is made).
9 is doable with all tier 2 weapons before you unlock crew
use 1 beam+5 laser cannon until you kill s19 boss
then retrofit to 1 bomb+5 kinetic cannon
for s20 use 1 max damage bomb(kinetic volley power, lv70 mega bombs) 5 kinetic supports(kinetic volley cooldown, kinetic volley power, lv70 fire support, armor damage synergies)
for s21 use 1 max damage kinetic, 1 support bomb(range synergies) and 4 support kinetic
also use automator modules
