Monk vs Sword of Light

Monk special ability;
You may not use any weapon or armour duing battle

Vs

Sword of Light;
Magic Object - Weapon
No evil character may have the sword of light
Add 2 to your strength in battle and 1 to your craft in psychic battle

I have had several games where the Monk was able to use the Sword of Light and even cast Enchant Blade on it to gain a +3 strength bonus in battle. Ain't this in conflict with the rules or am I missing something..?

the monk is not able to use most wepons and armour but (hidden fact) he is still able to use wepons and armour for craft combat so sword of light will work for the craft but not the strength fights

Talisman makes a distinction between Battle(Strength) and Psychic Combat (Craft).
