Tavern maid
I went the tavern maid and had the clockwork owl and the follower riding horses. When i used the follower and clicked on a character who was more than 6 squares away but was within the limit of my total movement, the only option i have is to serve a drink and not attack even though i can travel past him because of the horses and pick any tile because of the owl. It works fine if i don’t use the follower.

When i used the flying potion and landed on the same square as a character the only option is to pour a drink.

When i visited the Six Fates Inn as the tavern maid i wasn’t give the option to pick the dice but had to roll.

Query about the follower gremlin

It says that i must take him as a follower which i do but then if i click on my list of follower i can just discard him. Should i be able to do that ?

I'm playing the Tavern Maid now and I figured it out. Here's how it works:

Say you roll a 5.

3 space away is a character. You can stop at that character, but you can only Pour a Drink.

5 spaces away is another character. You can travel the full 5 spaces and land on that space. You then have three options.

1) Encounter the space (ie: draw a card).
2) Pour the character a drink.
3) Encounter the character (ie: combat).

In other words, in order to fight a character, you need to roll the exact die number as is the exact number of spaces that character is away from you.

You don't need Clockwork Owl in order to pour a drink for characters between your space and the number on the die. But you can only encounter a character if the space the character is on matches the maximum number of spaces you can move according to the die.

Hope that makes sense.

It make sense sure, but surely with the clockwork owl i should be able to choose to fight the person as I’m using that to choose what tile to land on

Indeed this has to be a bug, since every other character with multiple Encounter Character abilites has a choice when encountering characters while using the Clockwork Owl.

Once I acquired the Clockwork Owl, I was indeed able to encounter characters (not just Pour Drinks).

Without the Clockwork Owl, I could only encounter characters (ie: combat) with only the exact die roll.

I’m talking about using the clockwork owl with the riding horses though not just the clockwork owl by itself. If I used the follower and got a 10 roll and I have the clockwork owl then if I clicked on a character that was 8 squares away I would only get the option to pour a drink but not fight.

Also when i used a flight potion and could select any tile if i selected one with a character i could again only choose to pour a drink.

Okay, I am playing with the Tavern Maid now. I have both the Clockwork Owl and a Riding Horse.

I just rode the Riding Horse and rolled 3,3 (6). I travelled 6 spaces exactly and landed on a Cleric. I can only Pour a Drink (not encounter).

If I don't use the Riding Horse, I only role a 3. A single space away is the Bounty Hunter. I can Pour a Drink or encounter him. On that same role of 3 I can encounter a Druid exactly 3 spaces away. Again, I can Pour a Drink or enounter him. Interestingly enough, if I use the Riding Horse, I get both options if I land on the space of either the Bounty Hunter or the Druid.

It seems to me that there is a bug here when using the Riding Horse.

On my next turn, I rolled a 6,4 with the Riding Horse.

5 spaces away, I can either encounter the Cleric or Pour a Drink. I get the same choice with or without the Riding Horse.

9 spaces away, I can only pour the Druid a drink.

Something is definitely buggy with the Tavern Maid (and possibly with the Riding Horse).

Thats how I understand the Maids ability. If you stop your move you can only pour a drink. If you land on the same field according to the die roll you should have both options.

If you teleport you should be able to encounter the the charakter as well. Bug imo.

If you use Clockwork Owl you should have both options too. Nomad should turn Clockwork Owl into a trigger item like Dreadwing or Riding horse.
According to the FAQ the use of Clockwork Owl & Riding Horse is not allowed anyways.

When I defeated the Eagle King in the Highlands and landed on the Bounty Hunter in the Outer Region, I could only pour him a drink (not encounter him or the space). This was with or without using the Riding Horse.

Tavern Maid sure seems buggy to me.

Here's another questionable action that I have seen. One of the results of the Maid pouring a drink lets her choose in which direction the character moves on their next turn. I have seen her cause a chracter to move backwards - against the arrows - in the City.

Can the Tavern Maid's power override the normal movement rules of the City?

It can. From the City Rulebook;

Characters cannot move against an arrow on a street space unless an ability or effect forces them to do so.

The Tavern Maid is controlled by a player, she cannot choose to move against the arrows in the City, only if she is forced to by an ability or event.

Example:

The Tavern Maid has Misdirection cast on her, the caster chooses anticlockwise. The TM rolls a 5, two spaces anticlockwise is the Spy. She decides to stop on the Spy and pour him a drink!

They're probably talking about rolling a 4 on the Tavern Maid's pour a drink table, which lets the TM force another character to go against the arrows.
