Goblin Shaman & Spellbound Followers

One of the Goblin Shaman's abilities is to spellbind Goblins and Hobgoblins and take them as followers. Another ability is to sacrifice spellbound followers instead of losing a life.

In the game I just completed playing as the Goblin Shaman another character was on the Crown of Command with the standard ending. After they successfully cast the Command Spell I was NOT able to sacrifice my follower to prevent a life loss. There was no button that popped up during the reaction timer, nor anything in the Cards You Can Use box.

The Goblin Shaman's card does not indicate this ability can't be used against the Command Spell, nor is there anything in the basic rules prohibiting it. This ability would be treated as any other spell or object that you may use to prevent life loss, but in this case it isn't working unless I missed something during the time the reaction timer was running.

I was able to sacrifice my followers twice.

I don't know why I wasn't able to do it when I was being targeted by the Command Spell. As stated above, I didn't see any buttons or anything else in the UI that would have let me sacrifice my follower to save a life. If I missed something somewhere, somebody please let me know what and where it was.
