give a character one gold

i have the quest to give a character one gold-used defeating the eagle king and then teleported to his space-i have 10 gold. I am not a lycanthrope-but he is. Was not given the choice to give him a gold-i am thinking because it is night-but if i am encountering him-i should be able to give him a gold-making this quest impossible to finish.
Will try again during daylight to verify if that is why i couldn't

Also had this Warlock quest which failed. Had a gold, and landed on the Dark Cultist in the desert (next to the Warlock space), but with a Water Bottle. Was not forced to give the Dark Cultist a gold, nor was I given the option. The next turn, landed on them on the Runes next to the Warlock space and was successful.
Am wondering if it is a problem with the desert space overrriding?
