Range/Resolution
Hiya, quick Q

Just installed Talisman Digital Edition on a new PC and it's giving me an out of range error o my monitor. In addition it also starts up in full screen, is there a way to make it start windowed?

Use the Settings button in-game (spanner) and you should be able to adjust it from full screen.

As for the error, restart Steam to see if it helps.

Settings doesn't actually do anything. I can't get to the main menu because as soon as Talisman starts it goes full screen and out of range error, meaning nothing shows up at all

What resolution is your monitor set-to?

It's set to 1024x768 at 85hz by default if I check in the panel, I've not bothered changing it but going too high on the resolution or too high/low on the refresh rate also causes the same error

It works fine windowed though, but seems to want to start up full screen

Sorry to be a pain but can you take a snap of the screen on a mobile phone or similar and post it to support@nomadgames.co.uk. When it's in a window and you click on the spanner, you should be able to see the full screen icon in the top left. Are you clicking that and going out of range?
Fired it up to test once more (as I don't have a phone with a camera to get a pic)

It starts in a window for a split second, then automatically goes to full screen mode regardless of what settings I picked so the spanner doesn't even show up at all.

I'll try deleting EVERYTHING Talisman related and see if that fixes it

That's a good approach: a clean install. Let us know how you get on.
Month or so later wth updates

No luck. Narrowed it down to it starting up at 50hz when my monitor's 60hz and up. So, any way to force Talisman to run at a specific refresh rate?

Had same bug. Posted it in google docs. On my old PC with old Monitor i m trying to get fullscreen but it seems my monitor coulnd t dispay it, because of Resolution range i guess. Since its old lamp monitor it can display up to 1024x768x85 or higher with lower refresh rate 1280x800. Also couldn t post regular resolutions, just some strange stretcheed ones.

my guess is that when we r trying to get full screen on old monitors it sets by default some high resolution (over 1280x800) and it can t be displayed.

when i m checking resolutions on my ordinary PC with 24" 1920x1200 can t find any regular ones for olders monitors. Maybe you should streech resolution range, and add some lowers like 1024x768. 2nd idea is first set resolution then apply it (now it resolution is automaticly changed when you press button)
So, did a complete reinstall on my laptop and had the same issue until I managed to force it windowed with another third party program, that broke the game though.

Now this is where it gets interesting given that it's a totaly fresh system and my laptpop is a widescreen one by defaut.

On my win 8.1 laptop, it's starting up at 2048 by something else. Fullscreen by default on both machines. For kicks I installed it on a third machine. Exact same issue even with a brand new monitor that can display 2048 by whatever at 50 or 59 hertz.

Same out of range or resolution issues on an old CRT, a 2012 laptop screen set and a 2013 LCD display.

Am I missing something or plain SOL on this game? I can't find a way to manually set a res outside of the game (which'd let me get to the options and set an actual, workable res) or make it start windowed (ditto)

Hi, please make sure you have the latest version, then type %appdata% into your windows start menu. Then browse to the Talisman folder in the window that it opens, and delete any .options.local files you find in there. The next time you run the game it will start with default options - which _should_ mean that it starts full-screen at the highest resolution supported by your display!
Thanks,
-Mat
EDIT: 2048x1600 res by default? That is very odd
