Who is "The Best" character.
Hello, guys. Just want to see some opinions from veteran Talisman players (which mean you play a lot and you play with different heroes).

Name 5 characters, which are Top Dogs and 5 characters, which are Loosers :)

All DLCs applies to this rankings.

I am not a veteran player (not now), but still, i can give you my opinion:
Top Dogs:
1. Amazon (two brutal abilities - to move good and to win battles is the key to this game)
2. Assassin (staby, staby)
3. Dark Cultist (slow beginning, but powerhouse later)
4. Swashbuckler (once you have a weapon and a small strenght boost, you grow very fast)
5. Black witch (great movement, really great)

Loosers:
1.Priest
2.Dwarf
3.Minstrel
4.Leprechant
5. Elf

I like the randomness of the Dark Cultist's rewards, and I was doing well with the Leprechaun (besides having more money than's included in the physical game) until I was instant deathed by something.

Haven't gone very far with the Apprentice Mage, but I like his "Wild Mage" aspect.

The Clerical characters, except exorcist, need a lot of boosts before they're useful, given their item restrictions.

It would be great if there was some data collecting that could show exactly how often each character wins...

That would certainly be great

Interesting list. I wonder why Apprentice mage is so low. He is worse than a wizard, but once he gets a craft 6 (or 7, dont remember now) he is actually a lot better. Till that time, he has an advantage when learning his new spell.

And why exactly is Ogre chieftain good? I cant see his advantage, can you, please, point it out?

The Apprentice Mage has to gain 4 craft before the character is very good. It can take a long time to gain 4 craft and until then, the character is an unreliable caster that can cause you to lose life. The starting 3 strength isn't bad though.

The Ogre Chieftain can dominate Monsters which make up most of the enemies and he has a high starting strength. With the dungeon expanion, he can take down in the LoD in no time by dominating 4 or 5 monsters. With even 1 monster, he can usually defeat any other character.

1: Warlock - basicly unlimited spells
2: Gambler (Especially with Fate Stealer) - can build up stats early and quickly.
3: Warrior - can cut down almost anyone.
4: Sage - 1 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and seeing the cards = sweetness
5: ♥♥♥♥♥ - Taking a just played spell is awesome.

The best character is the one that you enjoy playing the most.

Hmm, you are right, Jinkaru. However, when we compare warrior to amazon, he seems a bit lacking. She can not only negate her bad luck during a battle, but also negate a good luck of the enemy in that battle. That seems to be better than rolling two dice and picking highest (warrior skill), because with amazon skill you can also force enemy to reroll his/her dice.

And movement really is important in this game, dont you agree? In my games it is usually quite a problem to get where you want to be.
I misunderstood the Apprentince Mage's "draw from a spell from discard, but only ones you haven't cast sucessfully yet" ability for a few games. That it meant that he had to have cast it and failed, rather than "take spell from discard that you have not sucessfully cast even if you haven't held that spell yet".

Evil Cat: Yes, I did make exactly the same mistake:). This ability is very strong one.

IMO, there's no such thing as "best" or "worst" only the characters you are capable of using to their best advantage. It's more on the player than the character

You're trying to tell me Dark Cultist and Elf are equal?
No chance.
