Talisman: Digital Classic Edition

Talisman: Digital Classic Edition

Public / Private games
The new network code uses a different back end (not steam) and client code. As a result private games do not work in quite the same way since we no longer use Steam to connect players.

You can still invite friends to private games, but you can also 'share' a room name with people you know - via steam chat, email, crow, etc... and anyone who clicks private game and enters the same name will end up in the room together. Because other platforms don't support steam invites and our eventual goal is to allow cross-platform play this seemed like a reasonable way for players to get together.

Am I reading this correctly? That non-hotseat multiplayer games are simply not supported? I really wanted to play with my son in some private games, but I didn't want to pay for another copy only to find out that it won't work. And is it the same problem in the Android version?

non-hotseat multiplayer over a local network is not supported. both computers need to have internet access for multiplayer to work, but only one copy needs to have the addons for both to benefit from them. When starting the game you can choose to make it a private game then invite him into the games lobby via the steam friend invite button.

So you could buy the season pass for your account and just the base game for his account and then select Random and 3 character select. This way he can play with different characters even if he doesn't own the DLC that they came from.
Can you play cross platform? I have it via Steam, but if I bought it for him via Android, could we still play properly in a private game? The comments are all very confusing and I'm not getting any definite confidence in the process...

Yes. Steam + Android + iOS can play together in online games.

If you are trying to join a private game, type in the name of the game you want to join (e.g. if they've called it ' join_me_ianvass ' put that in the text entry box).

What's nice about Talisman is that the digital version is significantly cheaper than the hard copy board came. I think $8 per STEAM account is a sight cheaper than $60+ for the core board game. Even with all 6 players, that makes it $48, so its a great gift idea for gamers to share their love of the game. The only downside is that while players with just core copies can enjoy the expansions owned by the host, they don't have access to the characters released with those expansions. However most of the expansions are about $4 to $6 each, so again, not horrifically expensive for what is a gorgeous reproduction of the board game. At least the pieces here are painted, whereas the 4th edition hard copy, all the pieces are unpainted.

Welcome to the Talisman community and enjoy!

I think everyone needs to make sure that their Router & Firewall/Anti-Virus software is configured correctly for Steam and that they have the correct ports open! Most disconnects are caused by players with poor internet speeds & incorrect settings.

Which ports would those be?
I figured out my last set of connection woes were due to 2 problems...

1) The host of our group wasn't paying attention to which servers she was hosting from (Asia instead of USA)

and

2) It turns out even if you set up exceptions, MALWAREBYTES, a brand I have been advocating for the last 2 years, has been causing more issues than they solve, so I uninstalled it from all the computers we use even though they had 2+ months of service left on them, as I was using the premium subsciption.

Very helpful. Thank you
So the only way to play multiplayer is having Internet connection (because Nomad servers are used?). There is no direct connection between players and I can't play with friends in LAN without Internet? So if some bad day Nomad company fall and will not exist anymore than we will lose possibility to play with humans and only local play vs AI will be available?

Yes, its the same scenario with Valve, the Steam servers will also shut down, if Valve will ever "die".

But i agree, its a shame that we can not create a working LAN (network).......
But Valve is a billion dollars worth corporation. Nomads are just an ordinary developer of few games (though Talisman:DE is great especially visually). It would be great to implement direct LAN connection/play for multiplayer. Maybe some day...

That's the kicker.

AFAIK (and I've been out of playing this for ... 3.5 years now?), this is how it _was_ but then the devs decided, "hey, let's totally break this to allow for some mythical cross-everything support!" And then, as far as I recall, it didn't work and the devs went, "oopsies," and never returned.

It's a shame I bought a four-pack. The original IP holder of the Talisman name/trademark should go after this developer, as it's making the Talisman mark look quite bad.

I am stupidly about to drop a lot of money on buying all the DLCs.

Can anyone positively confirm or deny multiplayer working properly?
mine works fine, if you log out pc takes over and you can log bag in and carry on.
Me, my wife and my ex all play on multiplayer. The upside of not having all the expansions us if the host DOES have expansions you don't, they are still playable by guests who don't. The DOWNSIDE of not having the expansions is even if the host has them, you don't have access to those expansions characters.

Sorry but this is not true, when you are using random chars or pick of three every player can get acces to the chars that are avaible in the pool.
