How does Broken Sword work

"If you visit the armoury, you may pay 1 gold and discard this card to take a greatsword form the armoury deck"

All of the requirements were met but it simply did not let me take the sword

Did you visit the armoury in the city? Were there any swords left in the deck or were they taken by other players? Have used the broken sword card many times and it worked fine. Perhaps you missed something in the play such as an event "all items cost one more gold".

This is pretty early on, no one had visited the armoury yet and there hasn't been anything effecting gold. This is the first time using the card, no one else has used it.

I figured out, I clicked to "visit the armour" when I arrived at the armoury. I was supposed to activate the card before doing so.

figured it out....man that wasn't very obvious. needs something more to tell you you can do that
