Character Selection House Rule
A minor point but a point all the same. Playing against the AI (so I assume it happens in multiplayer too) I started a game with random characters but with the Character Selection house rule enabled.

So me being the host I got to pick first. My choices would be, for example, The Assassin, The Monk and The Troll. Let's say I pick The Troll.

Okay, now it's the AI player's turn. His choices are The Minstrel, The Ghoul and the Assassin.

Now, if we were playing how I played this house rule in the board game, The Assassin wouldn't be available to the next player as the cards are all dealt out to all the players *before* players decide which character to pick. So because I had (and discarded) The Assassin, he wouldn't be one of the choices available to any of the other players. Hand out three face down character cards to all players prior to them choosing. The fun is all your choices could be characters you like or all characters you're not fussed on. But them's your choices. The way the digital game is designed is the first player gets three cards, chooses his character, discards two then those two become available as possibilities to the other players.

Thoughts? Should this rule play out like I describe or should the choices be randomly generated from all the available characters?

Its the way i play the boardgame too. But I think this would need to be a different house rule, something along the lines of '3 Char Selection'. But the current house rule does exactly what it says, so I dont think there is a need to change it, its a personal preference after all.

The way the DE does it would add about half an hour to the board game as each player agonized over their choices then reshuffled the cards each in turn. I would also be in favor of the cards dealt to any particular player not being available to any subsequent player. I do like seeing something like the thief or monk in my hand at home and knowing that even if I don't pick them I'm not going to have to face them

I've just created a 4 player game with 4 local (hot seat) players... all 4 players can play the same character, e.g. warrior x4 - so I don't think there is a bug here if all 4 players get the assassin as a random in his 3 chr slectection and all pick the assassin to play.
I'm having a different issue: the game seems to have problems remembering which house rules are in play. Sometimes I've started a game, thinking Character Selection was on, only to end up with no choice and a random character selected by the game.

harag raises an interesting point, as I thought there was something that could prevent duplicate characters.
