What DLC would you recommend buying, and in what bundle?
Sorry for the delayed response. When it's on sale, the Season's Pass buys them all and it's a hell of a deal.
But for my money, the Reaper, the Blood Moon, the Highlands and the Dungeon are must haves.
We never play with all of the DLC though...that's just too much. We like to mix and match DLC each play-through to keep the game unpredictable and fresh.
Alright then, I'll wishlist a random piece of DLC for the next sale, which should be the Spring Sale in two days.
The reaper is a fun little addition that doesn't really change much (and with all the 1s you will be rolling, he will move often)
Extra characters are fun, some are relatively OP if played to their strengths.
I picked up the Sacred Pool for the mounts, I might still get Firelands and the frozen one, but even if you get all the DLCs you probably won't want to use them all at the same time in one game session.
Other expansions feature new rules or new mechanics, some of which may not be to your liking. The Harbinger features an "end of the world" mechanic, Cataclysm completely revamps the board and introduces "denizens" and "remnants", Clockwork Kingdom has inventions, and so on.
Depending on which expansions you have in play and what rules you use the AI can provide acceptable opposition. You can give them Runestone boosters if you feel over powered but Firelands, Dragon, and Harbinger expansions together with an open Woodlands and active dark fate are tough enough to make you repeatedly scum load.
I'd buy the 40th anniversary edition. It's the cheapest way to buy most worthwhile parts of the game. Learn to play with one expansion - I'd start Highlands, Frostmarch, City - and play with that until you get comfortable then add a single expansion. I'd leave Firelands, Dragon, Cataclysm, and Harbinger to the end in that order. And don't play with any Ancient Beasts active unless you are playing against humans and you're a masochist.
S.x.
P.S. As soon as you can deactivate the Crown of Command ending. It's probably the worst ending in the game.
The game + Season Pass + the only character which IIRC is NOT included into a Season Pass (due to belonging to charity event) will have you covered for YEARS.
It is best online with people on voice.
If one person has the dlcs (does not have to be host) then the host can still use them even if host doesn't have all dlcs, you just have to turn them on every time the one with dlcs joins your game
I have a group of friends who normally play on voice (discord) with a few different hosts who set games up differently. who own all dlcs.
Sometimes I like to make death boards, with few dlcs sometimes with many dlcs. we also don't mind if someone takes a little longer in their turns to read cards if they don't know what the cards say/do. Not everyone has memorised everything. but if you looking at buying they do have a free to play dlc which changes weekly, or you are welcome to join one of my games, we are also happy to answer questions for new players.
