worth it for single player?
i played this a few months back when it had a free weekend, i enjoyed it and only played single player, only a few characters were unlocked and it was fun overall but still not sure, does it get old fast is the AI smart enough to offer some replayability?

The AI can be challenging early on if you don't know the game. I have a good time with single player, plus there usually are a few games you can join in the online area.
The AI is about as smart as a box of rocks. After a few dozen hours, if that, you're likely going to stomp them in most games, unless you intentionally hamper yourself.

Luckily that's easy enough to do, but whether you want to take the trouble is up to you.

I picked up the whole shebang awhile back and have played for over 50 hours, solo-offline. Personally I really enjoy it, especially so with the entire package- it'll get pretty monotonous playing alone with just the base set-up.

Once you get really comfortable with the game, I doubt the AI would ever be able to win against you, but it is good enough to throw the occasional monkey wrench into your plans, so it's fun.

I do agree with 8-bit that having the expansion content makes a huge difference in terms of replayability, though. Before I noticed that the expansion content has to be turned on in the game setup, I was starting to get bored, but the expansions add so many new cards and allow for so many new strategies that it feels like a completely different game.

I've been playing almost exclusively in single player and having a blast. Once you get good at the game an AI opponent is much of a challenge if you don't give yourself a handicap, but the game is still enjoyable.

It really doesn't feel repetitive with the expansions. You can mix and match them to change how the game is played, then the various characters available with their own playstyle makes it feel new every time.

I played five games in single player and lost five. The AI always gets best rolls of the dice and seems to get alot of strength and then it wins, and i lose :-( What can i do to win?

100% worth it for single player!
The game is what you make of it and if you just want to play to win then you will get good at that, if you want to play to collect everything it is a bit of a challenge...
Personally after a few hundred hours of playing I am still enjoying it as much as the very first day!
Apart from the bugs and weird decision the AI occasionally makes...

Just keep at it. As you get more familiar with the cards, it will become more obvious which choices are more likely to help you in any given situation. There's really no substitute for experience.
I used to play 2nd Edition back in the day. I was interested in this guy, and he played Talisman...almost 30 years later, I've no idea what happened to the guy, but I'm back playing Talisman :-) One of the things I remembered and loved about it was that it was just beautiful to look at...the game, not the guy. 4th Edition looks different, but it still has that appeal to the senses and the imagination. As somebody noted above, you can play to win, and you can play to play -- laik bilong yu, as they say here in PNG. It's fun just to roam the board and see what happens.

Also, Talisman *is* the expansions. Ignore any reviews that only cover the base game.

Not really because the ai does such dumb and stupid things. If you can't play mulitplayer best just try something else. What fun is it playing with yourself by yourself anyways. Are your hands numb? <->
Some people have fun with playing games vs the ai only, some of them also spend 500 hours and more just with the ai.

It depends on your own mind, if you need a challenge, then games with the ai isnt worth your time, if you just play this game because its Talsiman, then maybe the ai is your friend.

The trick is you need some mates that play this game, public games are full of leavers (the people that will leave the first time they are toaded aso), when you have some mates the game makes more fun and its better then before.
