Cataclysm with the corner boards or other expansions?

I've got a bunch of the character/card expansions, all 4 corner board expansions and Cataclysm and after playing a few rounds using everything I have I was wondering if Cataclysm might play better on its own? Any thoughts on this? Thematically at least it seems to make sense but I thought I'd ask people who are more familiar with Cataclysm than I am.

You can play Cataclysm with or without regions. It plays fine either way.
