Why are Satyrs EVIL?!
Seriously, why? Satyrs are considered fae creatures, and therefore often considered Neutral, unless they are a member of the seelie or unseelie courts. In Greek mythology, Satyrs are inveterate tricksters, who just want to be left alone to play their pipes.

So, why are they Evil in DE? It this a legacy from early editions, a gameplay consideration to give them easy access to restoring Fate, or what?

It's a legacy thing and a balance of overall alignment thing. I'm guessing someone thought there were too many good and neutral fae and the Satyr's trickster powers worked for evil. Talisman heroes are quite specific, hence the large number of different knights.

They aren't one of the few characters with fixed alignment, which heavily implies not all Satyrs are evil even if the standard player archetype is.

With regards to balance of overall alignment, Nomad released 1 Evil and 1 Good character in this bunch, so why do the Satyrs need to be Evil? The balance of alignment means that the Satyr should be Neutral...

Personally, I HATE answers that come back to "legacy" - if you are updating thins to the current edition, why stick with anything because of legacy? It's just lazy design, if you ask me. If the design brief was Evil Satyr, then fine, but if the design brief was Satyr, making it Evil just because earlier versions were Evil seems like a shortcut and a wasted opportunity...

I like using the alignment bound house rule for the woodlands. oberon is pro evil is he not?
There is 32 evil characters
45 neutral
and 26 good characters
also 1 druid
and there is
2 alignment locked character for each group
1 good\evil locked with Life drain from "change alignment events"

So - it's more like we need more non-neutral characters (good one especially)
You can argue that neutral is not set in stone (there is a very few ways to change alignment to neutral and muach more to evil\good) while it's the most versital alignment (you can both heal and replenish fate in outer region (without life lose on any titel) and most better items\event target non-evil\good characters not just evil\good), evil also... "good" (you can replenish fate in outer region and HP in middle region also evil items is mostly better)... maybe we will get new region with fate for good characters :(

Sounds like satire.

I like a dynamic with nebulous fae creatures to be introduced like: "Choose an alignment at the start of the game. Alignment can be changed with other effects later in the game."
