If you truly want to punch your lives just for fun though, you can try to seek the Benediction spell (http://www.talismanwiki.com/Benediction) ; you can also farm the adventure deck until you get the Runesword (http://www.talismanwiki.com/Runesword) or Life Fountain. There might be some other effects to look out for but there really isn't many of them.
Some destinies can increase your life value and there is also the 'Verdant Talisman'.
Imagine it on a Possessed with a big quantity of gold and a doctor nearby...
-Gain one Life each turn
Note: You have to be Neutral to have the Scales.
This combo has happened twice in my last week of gaming.
Once by me and once by an AI (in my current game).
If you're Neutral and get the Scales, just go in and out of the Forest to gain a different Path until you get the Path of the Seelie. Then just stay in the Forest to build your character up, trying not to leave until you're ready.
