Talisman: Digital Classic Edition

Talisman: Digital Classic Edition

The AI absolutely cheats in this game...
So having played it for 3 hours straight against all AI enemies I have noted the following things:

1. The AI will gang up on a human player. It will target them with (almost) every spell even if they are NOT the most threatening thing on the map by far.

2. The Dice Rolls are WILDLY inconsistent with enemies. I took a record of what was rolled and when over the course of 9 games. The AI was routinely skewing higher on *every single roll* than the player is. Math being what it is the AI was scoring a consistent 4+ on virtually every roll against the player. Again, this was taken over around 30 rolls. It is possible that 30 rolls in a row is just RNGesus showing favoritism, but that seems really suspect.

3. The AI will, I watched it, help each other out. This happened in my last game, before I swore off the PC game forever. I was finally on the crown of command. The following course of events happened, I kid you not:

A. An AI player (not the wizard) healed the Wizard, who was also in the inner circle with me, despite being at 1 HP.

B. The Wizard got the following spells *in a row* Immobility, the temporal card (the one that gives you 3 turns) and another immobility. Shooting through the center like a bat out of heck, oh and it drew *another* immobility as well. Which of course it used the first one on me, then got healing. Convenient isn't it? Put me totally in a no win situation.

C. When I finally fought the wizard who of course came at me on the crown of command this is the roll sequence: Him: 6, Me: 2 - My turn: Me: 1, Him: 5, His turn: Him 4, Me: 2, My turn: Me: 3, Him: 6, His turn: Him 5, Me: 1...

At that point, utterly disgusted, I turned the game off. I loved the game in real life and I could forgive the game for it's problems (Not being able to choose a card you want to use at the start of your turn? That is ridiculous. You shouldn't have to pre-queue a card.) but I have consistently watched the AI literally conspire against the player while also having amazing luck to boot. Luck that defies statistical probability.

Either - The RNG algorithm is faulty (or) there is some weird AI shenanigans going on behind the scenes. One of those two is definitely happening.

After 180 hours against the AI, I can definitely say that AI sometimes is quite stupid, and rolls do not favor them, in fact most of the time I win (is there any statistic somewhere like battles won, lost, monsters defeated, etc? it would be nice to have that). So I don't believe it cheats neither is favored, nor for the other characters nor the enemies.

Great game except I love how the AI always get the high rolls and I consistantly get low rolls especially when it matters like in a fight. Other than that utterly pissing me off the game is fun.

Jesus Christ. If I had a gun I'd shoot myself.
I also noticed, sometimes the computer makes strange dice rolls, that is, it gets convenient variants of values, moreover, several times in a row. But you can still win the computer. Just a week ago, I played with my brother against the computer, played 2 on 2, my brother and I and two computer players. As the game progressed, one computer player dropped out, the second one reached the crown first. A few moves later, I caught up with him, reaching the crown. I lost the battle for the crown, having made a mistake, thereby giving the computer an extra chance to win. I don’t know if a computer cheats or not, but most likely, many players simply don’t have enough attention when playing with a computer. Do not look at the moves of the computer, that is, play as if playing with a human. But the game with a human and a game with a computer are completely different things.
So, play more carefully.

The AI casts spells on whoever it thinks will help them the most. I have seen AI magic users cast spells all around with most of them not at me.
As for rng cheating, in one of my games an AI character beat me to the crown of command. I was playing on the standard ending and as I desperately made my way there my AI opponent cast the spell at me and missed, time and again. Ones twos and threes seemed the only numbers he could roll. It took me six or seven turns to make it to the crown and he hit that spell only once in all that time.
I made it to the crown. beat down his last two lives and eventually won the game.
In short my experiences have been very different.
The AI is cheating constantly- I just logged in now becasue of frustration! 4 players game. 1st round. I roll 1 for move, pick a card- fight- lost. The other 3 AI players rolled 1 for the move and ALL went to fight against me- all WON. In the first round I was dead. It is something really frustrating!
Bad luck and cheating are two different things.
Why care so much about how the AI plays? Talisman is meant to be played with real people and then it's a lot more fun. Just check the lobby now and then and you should find a board to join. Sometimes we've had an AI player with us but then it can't "cheat" more than anyone else in the game. Playing talisman alone is like living in a deserted city. It's depressing.

Yes, AI cheating so much, that it always die like last idiot.
I have had the AI target me regardless of how well I was doing and target me right out of the gate with a myriad of spells.

One game (which I wish I would have recorded) The AI spell casters hit me with the follow spells, starting the second turn. The game included the Apprentice Mage, ♥♥♥♥♥, and Wizard.

Turn Two - Immobility
Turn Three - Sleep
Turn Four - Time Steal
Turn Five - Immobility
Turn Six- Vindication
Turn Seven - Time Steal
Turn Eight - Sleep
Turn Nine - Cheat Fate

I have no clue how the AI could have considered me to be ahead that early in the game.
Most likely that the ai's were dumping spells and you were the earliest opportunity to do that.
With so many things to consider in a game of Talisman, sometimes the AI can definitely act in weird and odd ways compared to what a normal human would do.

But I can also confirm the AI won't ever do anything that a human player couldn't do. It's just that a human player has more sense than a robot. Don't tell Skynet I said that.
Damn, I want your guys AI, my AI just suicides into dragon tokens. Just an hour ago an AI elementalist suicided against the Titania (i think) fight at the destiny place. He choose to fight against 18 strength with 2 strength. But had he changed his stats before the fight it would have been a win. The AI is retarded (sorry Tom), getting some unlucky rolls is just being salty. I have played tabletop RPGs were I rolled "20" 4 times in a row in a game were one 20 could be lethal. It is just reality.

Edit: The fight was against Queen Mab with mages path.

I would love to see a patch committed to the AI and enhancing it. I have seen the AI do a wide variety of things from smart to stupid. Would be cool to see that more towards smart to okay. Would be nice to also see them play spells better than just throwing them like the cards on fire. One DLC in particular the death realm one the ai seem to have no idea how to play when they die. Its one of the dlc i tend to turn off because the AI suffer massively when they die because they just flail around. Hope the devs do more work on the AI in the near future.
The AI is something we consistently get feedback on, so updating it is definitely on our priority list!
Tom, I'd really like to see the AI decrease their prioritization of the Woodlands and the Deep Realms. The AI seems to think those are the best places to be and seems to flock there over and over and over, even killing themselves to stay there when they aren't strong enough.

In the case of the Deep Realms, I'm assuming the AI is aware of all the treasure contained within, and are like HOLY $H1T I NEED THAT, but I think they need to be more aware of the danger level of an area and their ability to handle it. I have no clue why they are so obsessed with the Woodlands.

I'd love to see them more heavily prioritize the outer ring, Highlands, and the City, at the beginning of the game, and once they reach certain power levels, move on towards the Woodlands, Dungeon, and middle ring.
