I would love hotjoin. I asked for it long ago as it would be a great addition to the game, but it simply seems unrealistic. Once all is said and done, I still think the game suffers from eve online syndrome, and that they'd have to rebuild the game from scratch to implement any major cool stuff. But I'd love to be proven wrong.

For others' future reference, this feature exists now. In progress lobbies, whether private or public, can be joined from the Online screen, and the joining player will join on the next turn. I haven't found any way for the host to directly invite a player to a game in progress, however; the joining player has to actively join from the Online screen.
