It was until recently if you died you drew a random character to replace your dead adventurer.

Now it seem that you always respawn as the same character.

I can see the attractions in competitive play where players who'd been unlucky in the character draw might try to deliberately kill themselves in the hope of better on the redraw.

But for human vs AI it makes the game far duller. Using the Dragon Expansion but not the Harbinger it was rare for the characters at the end to be the starting characters.

Is there any way to reactivate the original version ?

if you choose a character then-you respawn as that character even if you choose random character from the character portion of the setup.
To get random-you have to go to the 3rd setup screen and choose random characters there-then you should respawn with a different character

Thanks for the reply vidal.

It's probably due to the game being a saved game during the update.

I deleted it anyway since it defaulted to the standard CoC ending which I always block out from hidden endings. Nothing at all to do with my Str 7 Craft 16 Necromances being killed by the AI alchemist. No siree.... !
