Learn to host before hosting
I see a lot of noobs hosting games, and they don't seem to know how to set the rules. I know people have different ideas of fun, but here are some guidelines for an enjoyable game that most people will agree with:

1. Enable expansions. When someone joins, check the rules to see if any new expansions are added. The more expansions you have, the more attractive your game becomes. The City is the exception here, since it can make the game unbalanced early. Many people prefer to play without it.

2. Timeout 30s. Talisman is a very slow game, especially when some players aren't always active. Setting the timeout to 30s ensures that you don't have to wait too long until their turn is taken over by the AI.

3. Random Characters + selection. This is the best and most fair setting. I see many hosts not even bothering to set this, meaning you can pick a very powerful character by default. Having a character that you don't like playing handed to you is also boring, and can make people leave. This setting ensures that you get 3 characters to choose from, instead of picking any character you want, or being stuck with a boring one.

4. Sudden Death. This is the hardcore mode, which means players don't come back when they are killed. Personally I don't mind getting a second chance, but it makes the game longer, and pro players don't like it.

5. (Optional) Disible death and/or werewolf. Having these characters in the game makes turns longer, and they can be very annoying if you're unlucky with rolls. Disible them for a faster and more balanced game.

6. Learn english. ;)

I'm not going to go into detail with the rest of the settings, because I don't think they are essential. Feel free to figure them out for yourselves.

i guess he doesn't realize that for most of the people who play this game online(at least most of the ones i play against) english isn't their native language

You mean Bloodbath. Sudden Death is when the game ends after a certain amount of turns

I've played an online game before with google translate open, madly attempting to keep up with the 3 Italians who were occupying the other seats. Giving that I was the only person with English as a first language it made sense for me to keep up with their Italian than make 3 people talk in a second/broken language for me.

We do actually display table names based on the hosts language settings so if you see Stolik at the start of a room name then you know the host is running the game in Polish.

To be fair i have no problems to speak online in English, it always make sense, but i have several friends who can`t speak Englsih very well, and this people are all over 30 some of them are even over 40, and i don`t think that this people will start learning Englsh.

Not to mention that many people (including me) like to speak ingame in there naitive language.

it is nice to know other languages-but everyone should be able to speak in what way makes them comfortable-and like Fomalhaut above-often, i have played games where i was the only one or one of two who had english as their native language. I play with more people from Scandinavia then anything-except maybe a lot from the Eastern European countries. So-i learn to deal-I am usually actually the odd man out

I have already discovered this before, but if I change the language of the application to English (what I am currently forced to) you will not recognize that I am from Poland ;P

Can we get back on topic instead of dwelling on the ignorant English comment. Do most people agree on the list that the OP made. I would like to play online at some point. Also

No, op is not speaking for most of the Talsiman players, its not even nice to call new players noobs, thats why i dont take him to seriously.

1.Red= disabled
Green= enabled

If you tell the host in a friendly manner what this means, they learn it and will act. No need to play the teacher, we all started this game as a beginner. (and not all players are aware that DLC`s are shared).

2. 15 sec timeout with strangers is the common setting, 30- endless timer with friends is the normal setting.

3.Random and pick of 3 is the setting that is the best, since it is a fair setting, and all player can draw all avaible chars .(due the DLC sharing look at the FAQ thread for more infos)

4.Sudden Death is a game setting that is often used by players to get an extra advantage, new players often don`t know about it, and get lost due this (not to mention that several chars are just better with SD enabled), a few player are always playing with this setting to get fast XP points for the Leaderboard (yeah you know who i mean).

Beside this if all player know the rules and want a short game, then this setting can be used, but in my opinion it removes to much from the Talisman experience.

5.Always play with the Reaper, games without it are just boring! (Most people play with Reaper enabled)

For the Werwolf, this really depends on the people, most are playing with it enabled, but on the other hand others are prefering to play without it.

6. Learn POLISH, since most of the players are comming from Poland (don`t be that arrogant and suggest other people what they should do!).

(Sarcasm off)

The topic title is extremely rude, and the OP is also not on position to tell others how to play their own game.

Plus, that point about the English language is also extremely rude, and perhaps the OP should be punished for saying that. Everybody can play the game in any language they want and use the chat in any language they want. If the OP doesn't understand the language, they always can leave the current game and join another.

Considering that Polish is considered as one of the hardest languages of the world, learning it might be pretty difficult, but I approve!

7. Do not learn the game by playing online. Its pure agony for the other players
8. Get friends and play private games with them this is the best way to celebrate the Talisman hype.

Really, games with friends are much more fun, and you don`t have to deal with trolls, and you don`t have to worry about "noobs" and you don`t nead to create such a bait.:happycthulhu:

If often used very similar settings, so he can't be that wrong ;)
Oterwise, english is the official world language, so whenever possible, people shall use it. There is few more annoying than people chatting in their own language and you sit there isolated. That is not very polite. sure, if i can i will use my native language, but in online play, we all should know that english is the traffic language of choice.

To be fair OP only has one friend so his complete experience in Talisman online gaming comes from public gaming, thats said.

We all are aware how toxic this community can be, and new players need to get a helping hand, only a low number will ever come to this forum and will read this thread. (i have teached several new players the rules, and i would never start a bait like this, this thread is not helping)

This alone is pure trolling (the rest is not essential, yeah who is playing with bloodbath or without replace quests) , i tell you how you have to play and the rest... come one that is on you, i have no interest......

This rude behavior is not helping this thread smells like a troll TalProTroll: has started it.
