Low fps issue

Hi, I have a problem with Viscera where each time I launch the game, the fps decreases to something lower than it should be for I don't know what reason (varies from 30 to 70 fps). The weird thing is, whenever I restart my PC (or just even logging out and logging back in) and starts the game straight after that, I get way better fps (around 100 to 130 fps). What's causing it?

I'm using Windows 11 with an NVidia GeForce RTX 3070.
I followed most instructions provided by "The Grinch" (aka "A JANITOR") in some other posts:
- bDisablePhysXHardwareSupport=False
- PhysXGpuHeapSize=256
- PhysXMeshCacheSize=8
- bSmoothFrameRate=True
- MinSmoothedFrameRate=22
- MaxSmoothedFrameRate=146 (I have a 144Hz Gaming monitor and I don't see why I'd have to go lower since I was able to play the game at over 100fps)
- Launching with -DX11 commandline
- Almost all graphics options are maxed out (and I even tried lowering them all to the lowest and the problem still persists)
- PhysX driver is up to date
- GSync is disabled (my monitor doesn't support it anyway)
- Performance is set to Gaming in both Windows and NVidia Control Panel
- Dunno what "adaptive multisampling" is but is it really gonna change anything?

There's something that affects the FPS of this game over time, especially if, for instance, I'm playing another game and come back to play it, the fps "stalls" or I don't know what. How to fix please? Thanks

i did write what i changed tho
also that stuff should force it to use ya gpu instead of ya cpu

open gl works better than direct x:)
fps is way higher and way more stable and the picture quality is better

yep the stuff I changed made VCD run 6 times faster than default with upscaled graphics

8 cores seems fine but might set that to 4 or 6 for a little more stability so it doesn't exeed the texture streaming and shader thresholds
ThreadedShaderCompileThreshold=6
seems better than 8 it got rid of the slight pause i was getting=
don't set that higher than your total physical cpu cores

its definately using my gpu way more than it used to:)
nice to see the gpu usuage go from 10% to 80% lol

looks like open gl is a winner
runs way better than direct x

lol all those settings i posted are for nvidia n im using said settings on an AMD gpu

works like a charm

gonna see how it goes with 5000 x res:)

hmm game froze in main menu i might set the pool size and core settings to somewhere a little higher than default

set pool size to 1160 in the texture streaming and the core shader size to 2 instead of 8 really fixed she up
very stable now

5000 x res also eat a ton of memory=
game run at solid 60 fps n 100 fps at night vs dynamic day n night cycle a walking robot n a flying helicopter n a pile of custom bodies

looks great runs even better no stutter no lag just nice zen cleaning fun
stepping on landmines is a bonus
gotta love dynamic mess so the mess isn't the same old mess to clean up it always different:)

lol running VCD in 4k higher than the max supported res of my tv on an unsupported res still works
hello 6-8k VCD

and it still runs above 60-100 fps but mainly hang around a solid 60 fps vs super high res

running VCD like this makes it look like a ue5 game xd=Awesome on a 58 inch ultra hd 4k tv

nothing like playing VCD on a massive tv now it looks incredible

cool I just made VCD run 6 times better than its default performance and more than trippled my fps while upscaling 4k graphics into ue5 ultra hd 4-6 or even 8k visual quality=WOW IT LOOKS AMAZING N RUNS LIKE A DREAM

lol open gl really hit its c1it and its g spot n rubbed em together in style from ordinary VCD to extroardinary ue5 looking VCD

lol default settings wont go above 40 fps xd

game looks n runs way better than that now

i had to nerf the quality of the video if i record in 4k it will take a week to upload that to youtube vs really slow 2mb a sec internet speed xd so slice upload time to 5 hours as upload speed way slower than download speed
internet in australia sux hence why my yt channel sux too:)

even with crap internet multiplayer doesn't lag at all either:)

install steam link app start vcd with ya phone play splitscreen coop invite someone to play via remote play together=
any steam friend who did not buy or install VCD can join ya for free even if friend pc so crap it not have enough memory to start vcd but can run steam it will work
all dlc n workshop maps work too
it also let ya mix controller brands
ie
player 1=mobile phone with mouse and keyboard support and mobile phone touch screen controls
player 2=xbox 360 controller
player 3 ps 4 controller
player 4=ps5 controller

split the keyboard n mouse sharing on the controller icon on ya friends name in steam remote play chat to stop everyone from controlling all characters=bug fix now every player has their own controls

you can make ya own custom touch screen controller layouts in steam settings

get an otg adaptor n ya can play vcd with remote play anywhere as it let ya plug xbox 360 controller into your phone (can also bluetooth a ps4 controller if want to)
good idea to use free wifi somewhere tho as it eats ya mobile data like no tomorrow but hey it was fun playing vcd online in splitscreen coop while sitting on the toilet on the train

only catch is ya gotta leave steam running on ya pc while ya away from home so you can remote control steam from ya phone

i love the steam link mobile app it turns ya phone or ipad into a free steam deck:)
lol even the level editor works=make a map on the toilet sure beats reading the newspaper

cool thing about remote play together is there is no client side jank it runs like your hosting=flawless with no such thing as cancer connect attempt

remote play together only works in splitscreen coop
any steam friend can join ya for free without buying or installing vcd

vcd runs at 50-60 fps on my old toaster that is below the minimum requirements to run vcd:)
caution running vcd like this without a video card can melt the year 2000 dell office tower i5 cpu so be careful
2 years later n it still didn't melt with a danger sign in red txt in the bios for the max intel graphics memory
I made 30 VCD workshop maps on that toaster n everyone with nvidia and alienware still complained of lag n stutter back when a gtx 960 was the coolest thing around

lol it runs at 60 fps even if ya install vcd on a usb 2.0 usb stick n run it off a PID in a usb 2.0 port as the games final easter egg=lol n it works too, plug she in now ya pc is the punchout machine
usb 3.0 give an extra 20 fps
usb stick was faster than 300gb 1998 seagate ide hdd

lol what lag n that pc only had enough memory to start 32 bit vcd while everything else in my steam library crashed with not enough video memory and out of video memory crashes
not enough memory to start 64 bit vcd n it still didn't lag cuz Magyver is my middle name:)

1050 was the best nvidia gpu
2070 super worst nvidia gpu ever
VCD still ran at 60 fps without a gpu=lol

pretty sure windows 11 is the cause of ya problem along with nvidia hardware or driver issues xd

good old seagate takes a beating but lives for years
got 3 poker machines n 2 golf games off it as it was never used for internet so kinda nice it was pretty much empty when i plugged it in dirt n all but beats me why ya would install windows 95 on a 1tb hdd
good for external backup disk or music or movies i guess or moar free space vs all the free stuff ya get from the epic store as both that hdd and the epic store have free trash in common and vcd still runs at 100 fps off that disk:)

i did what you did in original post but set max framerate to 100
i set smooth framerate to false
i disabled the radial blur
I disabled DOF
i set the pool size to 1160 in the texture streaming instead of 160 and the core shader size to 2 instead of 1
i enabled open gl
will find those in the udkengine.ini and udksystemsettings.ini files

i disabled temporal aa in the udkgame.ini file

i set the refresh rate of tv in windows display settings to 59.99hz although it still the same if i choose 144 60 or 23 hz my tv overrides the windows settings at every refresh rate so when it dives it never lags
so glad i got rid of my old benque monitor the telly rocks

ingame options
autosave disabled
antialising disabled
anistrophic filtering disabled
fov 110 never spill buckets again
gamma=don't touch
particles mop drips complext lighting etc on
shadows high
draw distance options low or normal
pda txt slighty bigger
cameras optimised
physics max
motion blur off
pickup highlighting off
i also set the screen size as high as it goes you probly want to use 1920 x 1080
fullscreen on
leave vsync on=it still goes to 120 fps even tho its capped at 100 in the config

i posted a ton of links about tweaking ue3 games as well as unborking windsows 11
aparently that core isolation thingy is worse than Denuvo
so is one drive and the xbox game bar
disable nvidia overlay
disable gsync
enable adaptive multisampling
disable steam overlay
disable steam cloud and desktop thearter mode
delete msi afterburner

opt into steam beta from steam settings

reboot pc

put this in steam launch options box for VCD
-force-glcore

that will make 64 bit VCD run in open gl instead of using direct x 11=

other links i posted are players on nvidia forums or redit sharing potential fixes vs
i have tried everything and it still lags or stutters microstutters etc to no avail

windows 11 is causing the problem vs quite a few of its settings esp the mouse settings and the core isolation thingy
dodgy nvidia driver may also be causing it so no harm in factory resetting your gpu driver software that will downgrade the gpu driver to the 1st driver ever made for ya gpu n if that does nothing just update the driver again

all that stuff i posted is for nvidia and an rtx 3070 and its working nice on an AMD rx 580

after fiddling around with various setting I got vcd to run 6 times better and faster with upscaled 4k graphics vs windows 10
those settings should work better on nvidia than AMd but from reading it seems quite the opposite vs windows 11

good idea to swap hdmi cords try the one from ps3 ps4 ps5 or xbox one or series x etc or buy a new high speed 4k hdmi cord for like $2 from ya local junk shop

set the windows page file 1mb lower than what windows says is safe
set the performance for programs instead of system
turn game mode off vs windows 11 it can really screw up ya games vs stutter
lol win 11 so many layers of DRM is whats screwing with ya=worse than Denuvo
heck even disable windows UAC its gone on my pc xd=everything works now

AMD gpu=instant cure but will still suffer the wrath of windows 11 DRM along with its spyware

I had a ton of issues with windows 10 all my games including VCD suffered its fate
reinstalling windows made it worse

this fixed it
To enable hidden Administrator account on Windows 11, open Command Prompt (admin) and run the “net user “Administrator” /active:yes” command to create system super user account
logout and login to new account=congrats you just jailbroke windows=freedom at last now its not a fake admin but the irony everything magically fixes itself n stops crashing
install vcd from there
catch 22=
old admin account conflict with windows uac and windows defender and the new account=
error you need administrator privilages to perform this action access denied please run or reinstall this program as administrator=
WTF i am the fking administrator pc has 1 account=administrator

delete the old admin account but choose keep all your files button=

opting into steam beta is a great idea the folks over at valve will give ya daily steam updates n fix a gazillion bugs
some of which cause lag or stutter
so sometimes steam will fix it for ya if ya lucky

one thing i love about steam is steam beta its great and unlike normal steam its designed for windows 10 and 11
normal steam for windows 7 xd
just lose the cloud n it won't go haywire

I spent 10 years tweaking and optimizing VCD even if you have to strip windows to its core to do it
cool now it works 6 times better n 8 times faster than default

you probly notice almost all of my workshop maps run way better than the devs levels=
I found a major performance fix that is hard wired into my levels
(that stops everyone with nvidia and alienware from complaining about lag)
it also halve the file size vs dynamic lighting and 32 bit lightmap res on all meshes exept for stuff with checkerplate rusty metal on em=that goes black if ya set that to 32 bit lightmap res n all lights must be set to static bsp composite dynamic and dynamic for it to work
i also disable shadows on say 5635 floor n ceilng meshes=whoa fps leap from 60 to 100 and it makes multiplayer run soo much better
it also let me add more mess minus the glitchy dance party
also did that to stop youtubers with nvidia gpu's from bagging out my maps performance=instead they compliment it
lol a gazillion trees outside the map don't need collision let alone cast a shadow in most cases esp since ya got 6467464 objects n bodies that all cast a shadow

♥♥♥ the pretty shadows i wanna clean it not watch it lag but not disable objects from casting shadows

with the settings i posted it's VCD puts the pedal to the metal
as good as its gonna get
without overclocking ya pc at all

i am getting tired of adding cull distance volumes to fix nvidia lag when vcd run at 60 fps without a gpu cuz nvidia skimped on the vram and the rops with crap memory chips

a $1000 + 3090 is a $150 8gb rx580 with raytracing

Every other games are working fine though. It's just VCD that has this issue so far. My question is, why would it work optimally at the start of Windows and terribly bad after other gaming sessions?

surprised this old engine even runs on win 10 when it was designed for win 7 and a gtx 960
