Any good methods for bullet holes?
I'm really bad at welding them away, does anyone have any tips?

Tap the weld. There is a certain burn color that appears to either say "nah it's still here" or a solid yellow that fades if it worked.

2-4 taps of a weld on the bullet should work. Never hold for a second or more.

Pay attention to how long it takes you to weld a hole and how heated the arc is.
If the arc welder is changing colours, stop welding and wait until it stops spinning. If you weld with an overheating arc you increase the chances of starting a fire and creating more bullet holes.

I don't know why but none of these methods seem to work. This is embarrasing.

It's harder in some maps than in others.

The important part is don't let the welding gun overheat. If it starts a fire that means you just created another hole. Sometimes it takes a burst of 2-3 seconds, a brief pause and another burst of 1-2 seconds to get a hole patched up. That pause is important since the gun cools faster than the hole - but you can't let the hole's glow fade completely or you're starting all over again.

Also, fixing holes is one of the last things you should do in an area. It appears that stains on or near the hole greatly increase the chance of a fire/new hole forming.

Well welding holes is pretty much trial and error.
Just keep tapping them for only 2 seconds eah. So like it goes ZAp (1, 2) unzap, wait for color to fade. If still there, then ZAP (1, 2) unzap, wait for color to unfade and then see how it goes. There is no exact method to it since some of them disappear on contact while others take some times. Just make sure to never have it zapped for longer than 3 seconds or so in a row.

There have been a few where I had to fire for about 3 seconds to get rid of them. I then let the gun stop spinning and cool down & then go for another hole further away from where I was to be on the safe side.

Some maps have them vanish in a second or two, while other maps have the vanishing threshold much closer to the overheating threshold & therefore about half a second / whole second away from making a bigger mess.

Yup, Evil Science is one of those maps with tough holes.

Hm, well some maps have tough bullet holes, they take a bit to remove, ussually because these maps only have very few bullet holes, while the maps with many bullet holes have easy ones that require just a small burst to remove.

As for how long, honestly it just boils down to getting a feel for it, just keep doing it until you can do it on feeling alone. And it helps to know, bullet holes you create via the Arc Welder are always going to be the tough ones.

And if you have trouble hitting a bullet hole, try simply zapping the area with a very short click, if nothing lights up, you arent hitting it, or there's nothing there to weld. If something does light up then you now know where to shoot at. (And chances are, if you're not hitting anything, you could also be out of range, despite being some kind of laser, the Arc Welder has a limited range weirdly enough. :P)

And before i forget, give it a short while to cool down if it starts getting overly hot, else you'll just start making more holes then you fix, but i suppose other people also mentioned that.

also try not to shoot the welder inside elevator shafts or areas that cant be reached with the mop as if the welder puts scorches and more bullet holes under the elevators you wont be able to clean them:)

I am not sure about this, but I also get the feeling that the ANGLE of the bullethole matters alot. I feel that if you dont hit the hole right in the center, from the same exact angle, it takes alot more before it goes away. so if the hole is say 1m above you so the beam doesnt hit it perfectly in the center (maybe just the upper part of the hole gets hit) I feel that getting at the same level really helps out. Always hated the holes just because how freaking dificult they are... "oh you burned me with 5 3 second bursts? I will turn invisible but I will come riiight back!" -.-
