I can't say whether or not there will one day be a Viscera Cleanup Detail 2. Anything is possible.
You use a new engine for this new project ?, because you can use Godot Engine that is free and open source. It'll give me my port for linux. xD
Any idea on what type of game it will be like, or is it too soon to say anything?
The project is also running on the UDK, simply because we've amassed a large code base for it after making many different games/projects for it, which makes things much easier.
However it's doubtful we'll use it again after said project. We'll likely use other engines such as UE4, or our own.
I remember a time when every new game that came out had its own engine, but doing so today? God bless you boys, and good luck to you! The idea is retro and next-generation at the same time. :D
If however, you want something simple, like 2d pixel engines without all the overhead, making a simple engine in C++ with SFML is a breeze.
