How Do I Go Faster?
I have been playing this game for awhile, and I have been trying to beat the "average cleanup time" on all the levels. However, I found that doing this for the Paintenance Tunnels is physically impossible if I wanna do 100% cleanup. I can usually manage 2 hours at 102% clean, but that average time makes me think I am missing something. If so, WHAT? Because an hour and 30 minutes just sounds ridiculous to me. I'm already so efficient.

I already burn large body parts with the welder so they're easier to work with.
I already throw boxes down corridors so I can mass send them all at once.
I already reuse waste bins multiple times by emptying them in the furnace.

Play with others. 2 people are faster than one.

Always be carrying something when possible.
Use the welder on paper items, or toss a flare into your bin to burn the paper items.
Carry buckets 3 at a time.
If you have a dirty bucket, use it for small items like shell casings and beer cans etc.
Learn what items don't count as mess, things like coffee cups don't show up as mess and can be left. Use the wiki or my new janitor training map to find out which ones you can leave.
All I can think of for now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buckets
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Crank out 3 at a time, stack them inside each other, carry them to where you need to clean.

After they get dirty, start stacking them in a corner inside each other, and carry all 3 back, to the furnace. (a stack of 3 fits perfectly in empty furnace).

This helps reduce trips to/from bucket machine.

However, don't stack clean buckets in dirty buckets. The clean buckets will instantly turn dirty due to dirty bucket. So, only stack clean with clean and dirty with dirty.

If you have used buckets near the incinerator, they're good for qiuckly picking up bullet shells and small bits here and there. But only if they're next to incinerator anyways.

Don't get into the trap of mopping and then feeling obligated to use the bucket as a make-shift bin all the time, though. It's much faster to just stack buckets inside each other and incinerate them then it is to carry a bucket, mop it till its dirty, then load a tiny bit of crap into it. (I used to do that early on when I started playing, and it was slow. My reasoning was "I have to take the bucket to the incinerator anyways.. might as well fill it up." No. Much faster to carry 3 clean buckets, mop with them till dirty, then carry 3 dirty buckets.)

When first using bucket machine, take first bucket, empty it (tilt till water splashes out) and set it beside machine to chuck body parts into. Then make another bucket and put it next to machine to use to clean the machine when body parts come out, and just randomly clean your mop when needed while getting more buckets.

If you collect ID badges, an empty bucket is ideal for this. Just make one early on and carry it to new areas to toss them in. Then at end of level, empty it near ID reader and plow through them before incinerating bucket and clocking out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bins
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You're already emptying bins and re-using them...

But, when a bin is almost full, pick it up and give it a shake. You can sometimes get things to settle down and make a bit more space to help maximize your trips to the disposal.

Also, if there's things in the level like trash cans (House of Horrors) that need to get incinerated, might as well use them as trash bins and load them up while working them towadrds the incinerator. (Not too many levels have makeshift bins like that, though.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welder
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

* Use it to burn paper wads, chip bags, broken glass, monster plants & green slime balls (hydroponics), picket signs (Uprinsing) & paper notes on the ground, then mop up the burn residue. Helps save trips to furnace, and avoids the potential of their physics making them bounce around in bins and making stuff bounce out. (welder can also burn ammo casings, but they take too long to burn up).

* Practice, Practice, Practice.. a person that's good with a welder can quickly plow through tons of bullet holes. What used to take me minutes to plow through several bullet holes I can now do in seconds. Welding stuff is what often takes the longest for new players, b/c the welder is a huge pita to get used to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Play style...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This one is up for debate...

mop then pickup ... I prefer this play style. I like to go around mopping everything first, that way I'm not tracking tons of footprints everywhere carrying first. You can mop around things without disturbing them in most cases. If you use the bucket stack-n-carry trick, you can quickly plow through areas.

pickup then mop ... some people prefer this method, just picking up, binning things, etc and incinserating.. then when that's done they do the mopping to clean everything up (usually starting furthest out from incinerator and mopping towards it.. that way they're moving towards incinerator which is where they need to chuck the buckets eventually.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Plan your level
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Just spend some time wandering a level for a bit. You might think you want to start by picking things up, then mopping (or vice-versa), but once you start to see where the bucket / bin / incinerator / dispenser machines are, and what all you have to accomplish in the level, you might realize you need to alter your play style to accomodate.

EG: while I usually like to mop everything first, in levels like Uprinsing, I will just do a cursory mopping to clear the paths to the machines and incinerators, then just pickup everything and incinerate.. then follow up with acid vials and that's when I do the mopping.. b/c it makes no sense wasting time running around mopping everything early on just to go back to the same areas to mop the graffitti. Easier to just acid vial everything first, then I can mop everything completely as I go.

Also, the lay-out of the level (where machines are, how far away.. if they're centrally located vs. opposite ends of map) will dictate how you go about the level. If the machines are on the far ends of the maps, you really have to min/max your trips back-n-forth across the map.

Have to make every trip count.. so sometimes it may be better to stage things up in one area, then stage them up in another area.. and as you go back-n-froth, just carry stuff as you go.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Git Gud
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I know.. stupid saying .. but you will eventually learn the timing of picking things up and swinging them over to a bin and dropping them in one smooth motion.. which makes picking up bullet casings quick. You'll learn when things are near or far from you and if they're going to properly drop into a bin or on the ground (or, worse, on the edge of the bin, then you fight with the bin to pick the item up again).

You'll get into your own groove over time.

Yeah what they said
The best things that speed it up for me is
Gamepad=Xbox 360 controller for windows
Left stick to walk=heaps better than ones keyboard and spill alot less buckets etc
Mouse for everything else
Makes for the best controls in this game

Fov= default fov makes it clunky=very clumsy player!!
Ie put something in a bin and it goes on outside edge of bin and usually falls on the floor
Pick bin up and I got a bin in my face and can't see other things that are likely to get spilled or stepped in
It also alot harder to stack crates n barrels with low fov
I usually set the fov slider to about 125_130
so it not too fisheyed
If PDA or note txt is too small increase that in options
No more bin in my face
Objects land in middle of bin instead of the side of bin=object goes in bin instead of falling on the floor
Stacking feels much easier
Player has a larger field of view=camera heaps better as can see things in front of the player alot better=less spills n less mess

A big tv=this game is great on a decent large screen tv if feel like hooking ones PC to the tv with a HDMI cable etc

The biggest thing to speed up gameplay in VCD is this=
Go to host game
Game rules
Blood Footprints
Set that to none= now ya can't walk blood everywhere:)

Goodbye blood Footprints in =
Solo
Multiplayer
Speedrun
Any DLC including workshop maps

Re enable it if not got the pedestrian achievement yet

Play VCD practice makes perfect:albedothumbsup:

Try playing 'OCD mode' - it took me 12 hours to compleate Uprising

I didn't know about the stacking buckets, but since I've tried doing that they either clip into eachother and glitch and spill, or clip a wall in a narrow hallways or doorway and spill, or when stacking them one will slide in at an angle and spill..... I've been spending more time cleaning spilled buckets than it would take to just walk back and forth with 1 bucket....
im on the prison level

I've got almost 150 hours played and I still think stacking 3 buckets is risky business! 2 is fine but for me at least the chaos and time wasted if I spill them isn't worth it. The only way to get better is to keep playing and replay levels. Every time I replay a level I improve my time by close to 40-50%. Also, everyone is different in what they find to be hardest. I can weld without a problem and blow through those jobs quickly, but those damn acid tubes you had to throw to dissolve grafitti art felt impossible to me! (I think that was Uprinsing?) Also, I think there are different ways of playing: sometimes I try to play a level fast, sometimes I try to do a speedrun, sometimes I take my time and try to make it aesthetically perfect (place chairs neatly, computers and keyboards arranged nicely, ect) the main thing is that I do what I think is most fun, which I think is the key to enjoying the game the most!

I've been having problems now where if the buckets even lightly tap a wall they start to ragdoll and spin. Even if i set them down and pick them back up, they immediately begin ragdolling again and spill.... even with only 2 buckets stacked, still on the prison level. Basically cleaned the entire map before I realized there was levers to make the elevator go up and down lmao

There's an option to change the physics, i forget the name. Try messing with that.

I've already got it set to Highest, which is supposed to reduce glitches especially on smaller objects.... turning the setting down would just make it worse according to the tooltip

Learn to throw things. You can transport a lot of non-smearing stuff at the same time by throwing it through the level and walk with the last piece to where the others landed. Throw, rince, repeat. Always carry something, activate setting with 'always run', so you need to press shift to walk slowly. Learn the levels. Incinerate stuff where you can, mopping is faster than carrying.
