Once you clock out, you're taken to the office and are given a rating on how well you did on cleaning. If you didn't get fired (which happens if you didn't clean enough), you keep everything you bring to the office, and get to keep whatever you brought along in the blue trunk. Just make sure to empty your trunk while in the office, if you start a new level with anything in the trunk, it gets taken along to that level. Well, unless you WANT to bring those items along.
(Edit: And if you get fired, you lose everything you brought to the office, and your office gets reset to default, so uh, be careful.)
In multiplayer games it can be the case only the host may clock out, or clocking out is done by vote (if 2/3 or more of all players want to clock out, then everyone gets clocked out). Also, only the host of the server will recieve items put in the Janitor trunk, and everyone gets transported to the host's office (the host is the one who made the server).
