flickering lights=so far the only light that can flicker properly is the round medical light upstairs in evil science
to get the lights you have to flicker ya might have to override the material for each light in rendering setting in the lights properties
might have to copy the flashing light material from evil science=
create new material in your map package
open evil science flashing material in material editor and copy everything in that and paste it into your material then hook up the wires the same as the evil science material and make the properties the same as evil science material
to find the flashing light material open evil cience go up the lift in the dark room and look at the properties of the medical light/rendering setting next to the facehugger in the vent
you will find the whole light will flash so with rectangle or square lights i guess ya can put a vent cap mesh to make a new base for the light so it not look funny
a good example of flashing light on/off is in my new e1m2 map=maybe it easier to just copy flashing light material from there as the create a copy button works in workshop maps
robot reflection pain in the bum its hard to create new material instances as create a copy button is greyed out
normal materials can be copied via material editor and can swap the cubmap reflection or disable it completely but its rather tricky
i only really use robot meshes for a robot type map as that lobby reflection really sticks out
you can even see evil science in the bucket water and santas rampage windows lol
it can be changed but is very time consuming creating new materials to do so
if ya do copy the flashing light material ya can change how it flickers speed/fade in out etc
sift through the community content forum and check out Enex's videos and BlackEgles guide and another topic called starting off=loads of stuff there to look at to help get used to making maps in vcd
making maps is lots of fun:)
Nice decorating and even though it's small looking at seems to have enough mess to add a nice playtime.
Also don't always be aiming for a big map, some of my smaller ones (agency offices for example) are more popular than the bigger ones, simply because they can be played a quick fix of vcd.
Quality over content everytime. Unless your AJanitor then they both come in nicely together :P
A well made small/mid level will always win out over a big level with lots of backtracking and waaaaay too much to do in a reasonable time.
If you feel stuck or just need tip just head over to the Community forums and ask us there.
I can't speak for Ajanitor or any of the other map makers but feel free to add me as friend, uploading the map and setting it friends only lets us all band together to test each others maps before public release, for constructive critisim and help with bug spotting etc.
Good luck, good to see another map maker popping up
I will hopefully be uploading it tomorrow once I get a few things sorted.
Loved making this map though, next attempt will most likely include custom models and such
Yeah the map making gets addictive, you get an idea them bam, your sat for hours fleshing out and making it happen.
Custom models are nice too, I love adding new stuff for people to add to their office collections
personally i find kismet super addicting if load my maps in the editor you will find alot of cool stuff
same with cannonfiodder and carthief maps
being able to hide map from public to beta test between creators is very handy
also if really stuff something up and cant fix it i have been known to download ones map and fix everything and post a link for creator to upload a hotfix=thats if it really screws up the game
also an app called teamveiwer is also handy if ever want to use eachothers editor=remote access but it does lag abit but can use a txt file for live chat to help one use the editor
the freeware version lets ya see and use your pc for about 10 minutes at a time
so yeah have fun try not to put stuff liker oil rig meshes into your map as sharing content the wrong way will make things dissapear or cause crashes etc
anyways have fun is the best part of the map editor
@cannonfodder=thanks heaps for taking e1m2 for a test run=i still have a few small things to add like fake ammo pickups more whisky bottle drink pickups that make you burp etc and a few more collectables to find in secret areas, notes and a few pda's then its all done:)
for now my new map is rather fun to play n pretty easy to clean
