To make a successful indie game a developer has to have 2-3 years worth of funding saved up or they have to launch the minimum viable product and test the market to see how strong sales are. The respectable thing to do is when the market doesn't bear your development costs is to remove it from the market and stop taking money from people who expect a finished product. THAT is the only thing that these devs are doing wrong now. THAT is the only cash grab aspect. Right now this game will not suddenly get an influx of cash and the owner knows that he is just taking money from people who expect a finished game. He is doing so to try to recoup some money for himself and the team(thinks he is doing a good thing) but really he is just abusing consumer trust at this point.
