Characters Builds
I remember playing this a bunch as a kid, so I bought this as soon as I could.

I'm just wondering what people are doing for their characters. My first ever character did pretty much everything, but this time around I am starting with dual wielding swords and defense magic.

Anyone else want to share a build?

this is my first time ever playing this game and ive only had a brief look at stuff so far but what i plan on going for atm is a bow wielder with high crit chance and a bunch of summon spells learned. that way i can stay far away from the action murdering monsters with my bow while minions take all the damage for me :D

My plan is similar to Strawberry's. I'm mainly going fight with bows and minions. But I'm also going to keep my Sword and Shield skill on par as well.

Reason being, monster density, level design, and boss tactics might make bow sniping a bit difficult, even with minions, so at least this way I have a fall-back when things just need to get close and personal.

Also I read that some creatures are resistant to certain damage types. So I can switch between piercing and slashing, and keep a high elemental damage weapon for physical damage resistant bosses and such.

But then that's part of the fun of these types of games; character builds.

At some point I should probably put something into bows, since the minions that run away can be annoying.

Dervish is a really good Defensive spell that increases attack speed by 80%, but it takes magic level 40 to learn. I highly recommend it.

From past experience... Around floor 100, things get really hairy. My build of choice has been a "wall" character, focusing on absurd damage threshold and "reflect damage" enchantments. Even when there are thousands of monsters pummelling you for high damage, this build allows you to put points in defense magic and sheild block-- thus "combat" is a matter of standing around whilst your foes murder themselves on your impervious hide.

My suggestion is spending skill points on crit chance and defensive magic, because putting too many points into a specific weapon type really limits your capabilities. That said with a heal spell and Dervish, and a defense magic skill of about 30 you should be pretty much set with any weapon type. I emphasize that attack speed and lifesteal are critical to high-level dungeons. also i tend to spend most of my attribute points on dexterity, getting some strength if i need it to hold a stronger weapon or armor, but dexterity is really the best stat in the game. Don't waste too many points on magic/health unless you're building a mage or tank, because if you're going for weapon damage you'll survive better by hitting more often and getting heavy lifesteal than you would by having a larger health pool.

well with the character and item setup im using right now my block chance is like 55% and im only like lvl 24.

I agree with the life steal and attack speed combo. That way, more attacks mean more chances to score a critical (which I have been investing in). As of late I have been dumping my character points into dexterity since I don't need any more in magic, but later on I will probably invest in strength in order to use the higher quality armors. Dervish is still amazing.

Been hunting for superior gems. Currently have +50damage, 30% life steal, 75% attack speed, and 20% attack. 17 gems on all socketed gears. Took few hours of fishing for rares and save&exit method to get those gems. Level 11 so far, OP as ♥♥♥♥.

Want to know if life steal work with spells. That dual wield elf scepter's +20 to all magic skills look OP to me. That with Superior gems that increase Mana Regen and Spell casting speed looks fun. Wonder if spells crit too, if so ALL POINTS INTO CRIT!

I just bought this game for $0.89 USD and I'm ready to relive the nostalgia. I will try the Shield skill build that JeffTech reccomended. I really did not know that the dungeon tower goes down as far as level 100 and beyond, and tbh I never even finished the game as a kid.
I've only ever beaten this game once, when I was a kid. Since then, I've bought it on sale, reaching to furthest depths of nostalgia in order to give it a true go-around. I'll be using some recommendations from here!!

With my first character I used an archer-summoner build.
I let my summons do the heavy lifting while I used a knockback effect bow and charm monster spell from the rear.

I play on highest difficulty. My most effective build was archer. 3 slot bow that (I worked very hard to get enchanted with out penalties) has 3 attack speed bonus gem @15 ea. Leveled Critical hit, Dexterity most, then Strength, Defense mag, Attack mag. (magic hardly used except for Dervish, Haste, Charm( for portal and ID's) Pushed for enchanting Bow and Crossbow most I could and coupled the best I could do again with attack speed, dexterity. Topped all that off with as much Knock back as possible. By level 99 my little guy was hitting at or above 5 shots per second, and nailing everything against the wall. He was invincible. I did spend in the neighborhood of probably 500 million in enchanting his armor and accessories( hours of attempts and failures at the enchanter). I retired little Von Der Break at level 99 on dungeon level 90 given there was no more challenge. His successor Von Der Bash inherited a fine piece of jewelry. lol
