Identify Does Not Work

Hi there!

So, I bought this game for the nostalgia, like many of us here. However, both my Identify Scroll and Identify Book doesn't work. Part of the fun is finding and identifying rare items.

I am looking for any ideas on how to resolve this. Thanks!

Did you right click on the book/scroll and then click on the item?

Yes. Right click works for casting learned spells. Right click does NOT work for using both Scroll of Identify and Book of Identify.

Did you have Steam verify the game's files?

I don't know what that means or how to do that? I have never had an issue with a game before. So, what is my next step? Who do I contact and how?

Right-click on the game in your Steam library. Then choose Properties. Then choose Local Files. Then click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Did you right click on, note I said on, the book?

@kinsinger.rm I tried a variety of different methods. I right clicked the scroll, before clicking the item. I right clicked the book, before clicking the item. I tried dragging the item to the scroll/book (just as a what if). I still can't manage to identify.

I re-entered the game.

The Book of Identify that I found, does not work.
The Scroll of Identify that I found, does not work.

I bought a Scroll of Identify, and it works.
I bought a Book of Identify, and it works.

It's funny to have two Books of Identify and only one of them works. When I hover over the book I found, when the info pops up, there is no blue ribbon with text that says "Right click to use". The book I bought does show the blue ribbon when I hover over it.

So I guess consider this resolved?? I'll chalk it up to a game of chance of whether or not my identify will work, I guess.

Hopefully, it's just those two items that are bugged. If you encounter the problem again on the same character, that would be interesting to know. If you encounter the problem on other characters that would also be interesting, because you say you verified the files, so the game should be working properly now.

I had trouble making the scroll work when at my treasure chest for storage. If I put the scroll in my inventory, and made sure no other windows, like a sales window, were open, I could get it to work every time. I do not understand the glitch, though.
