Game plays inside the minimap only
So after figuring out the steps to get past the "Application error, this game will now exit" issue I found that my game will only play out as a miniature version of itself inside the minimap, and the rest of the screen is nothing but a frozen image of my character in the dungeon. I can even move around and navigate the menus within the minimap. Has anyone else had this problem, and potentially know a fix for it? I can't really play out the rest of the game in that tiny space. And if it's at all relevant, I'm using Windows 10 and have tried every resolution option available.

I understand the problem and i had it too. Here's what you need to do:

Go to the main menu
Go click on options
Choose a different resolution
Change the resolution back to its original setting

You may have to do this a couple times if it keeps happening but it should last a while

It worked for me, thank you so much!

I had to modify the config files to run in windowed mode to play the game on Windows 10 in the first place, but it seems like since Steam has updated the game to fix the compatibility issues, so if the config files are still modified it's causing a problem. You can fix this by going to C:\Program Data\Wildtangent and deleting FateSteam (works for all other Fate games too, at least for me). When you start up the game it will compress textures again and ACTUALLY RUN IN FULLSCREEN, and you can set the resolution to your desire (higher resolutions are now available). Hope it helps!

Sweet, I've just about given up on this until now. Thanks, I'll give it a try!

When I do this it deletes the file I need to open the game in the first place, giving me the Application Error and preventing me from playing.

I still have this problem after trying AegyptiacusRex's fix. No change. Game won't return to full screen. I have lost all hope at this point.
