Windows 11 Application Error The game will now exit

I was wondering if someone could help me. I just got a new laptop running windows 11. I have tried all the forums and adding in the config.dat file, however nothing I do seems to have any affect on the error. I have tried different compatibility modes and uninstalling/reinstalling. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it since this is a favorite game from when I was young

im having the same issue i just built my pc ryzen 7 78003d and radeon 7800xt i could not play fallout 3 or new vegas but found out its a driver problem i rolled back the amd driver to 23 and fixed it but i have not fixed fate it just will not play im wondering how to fix this issue

It could also be a driver issue. Video drivers, especially, are often the culprits.

Here is a link to the game developer's site regarding early versions of Windows 10 not working with the game. They recommend that people upgrade to later versions of Windows 10.

It looks like someone did a copy/paste of some information from Wild Tangent (It might be the same info. from the link just above this. I didn't check):

i fixed it. after some digging i went to this page https://support.wildtangent.com/hc/en-us/articles/205720935-FATE-on-Windows-10 instead of finding persistent folder forget that because we are on steam just download the config file they have then paste it straight into the local game folder and it should work after that

The fixes above work, however it only works on windowed mode, if you try full screen it won't work.

This is the correct solution. It worked for me on a new HP laptop with Ryzen 7 and AMD Radeon // Windows 11. Download the file first, and copy it. Then, open the steam launcher and view the local files for Fate and from there and just paste it into the main folder.

It makes the game windowed but in the in-game settings, you can make the resolution larger, and it will be pretty much full screen.

This fix worked for Win11 and Fate now works for me. Once it opened, I changed the resolution to the highest. Thank you.
