Blurry, Laggy, different pictures/patterns in each eye
This last update just made the game more unplayable than it was prior (with the height adjustment issues before update). It is completely blurry, different patterns/images showing in right/left eye constantly, and just unplayable/laggy. OpenXR HP Reverb G2 but happening with every other headset as well (except maybe oculus/meta, looks like it is made for OLED)

Hi Joeyhodge - thanks for testing out the update and getting this feedback to us. We haven't tested on that particular headset so unsure what the issue might be. We are looking into it now. You mentioned it was happening on some other headsets as well - can you let me know which ones so we can try to narrow down the issue? Thanks again for your help!

Can you also give us your pc specs so we have better idea also? We all tested the game using our own machines but it helps having more information

thank you very much for the quick response. Also again, appreciate the update too. I have noticed it on the G2 but also on any openXR defaulted runtime but the only other one I tried was index with similar results. (I will test defaulting runtime to SteamVR as a test as sometimes this can make a difference).

the main setup i have tested and noticed the glaring issue is on my G2, RTX2080 Super, openXR runtime (via steam), i7-10750H CPU

The issue is indeed OpenXR runtime on this latest update...steamVR fixed the issue but having to set OpenVR as default runtime to do so, or use the launch option which I will do for future. Thanks for the help, I have a workaround myself now, and hope this helps to improve OpenXR in future
Joeyhodge Aug 26, 2023 @ 9:09am
since it is a UE game, the launch option for game specific runtime should likely be
-hmd=SteamVR or possibly -hmd=OpenVR
for openXR it would be -hmd=OPENXR
and for oculus/meta it would be -hmd=OculusHMD
-----
if for some reason those do not work, then this should: -vr hmd=SteamVR
or whichever runtime you want it to default to SteamVR OculusHMD or OpenXR (avoid)

That's an interesting observation. We switched the default runtime from DX12 to DX11 and noticed some substantially improvements so thats why we pushed the update. I'll definitely test out OpenXR to see if uts affected

I wonder if DX11 doesn't want to play nice with OpenXR

thanks for looking into it, much appreciated. and yeah, that makes sense if that is indeed the case. Is it possible to change between dx11 and dx12 via launch options? or is it baked in the build?

You can add the -dx12 or -d3d12 flag to your launch options to enable dx12 or -dx11/-d3d11 to force DX11

I have Ryzen 5 2400G, RTX 2070 Super, Win 10 Pro, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB SSD, 4 TB HD, Valve Index HMD. I tried playing today, there was an afterimage in my left eye. Tried putting -dx12 and -hmd=openvr in the launch input, that completely broke the game.
Tried the -dx12, it changed the image but still there. Used the -dx11, it removed all afterimages and ran whole lot better.

Thanks for testing that out and letting us know! We were getting that afterimage too and noticed it happened when we switched to dx12 so we defaulted back to dx11 and it solved it for us too. Not sure what's going on with that or the openXR issues. How does the throwing feel with the index controllers @running-target?
