Scenario One: Way Home - No Healers?

I just started playing the game and made it past the prologue, and noticed when I went around to all the map's villages and freindly/neutral buildings that offered troops for hire, that the only place that listed peasant women for hire was Soggy Hill village.....which would be fine exept that the number available for hire from there is set at x0 from the start?

I re-loaded my save game from right before the chapter change and rather than wandering all over slowly collecting my troops from various places, I went straight to the village and, sure enough, it was still set to x0 available. Is that as intended and we're expected to do without healers for that scenario? If not, then where else can you get peasant women in this scenario (or do you have to wait a certain amount of days for them to "re-stock" or something, as I have no idea how that works?)

I don'y THINK I overlooked any place that might have them for hire but I suppose I could be wrong...

I think you are playing too cautiously, i.e. going around searching for the healer and reloading your save game or restarting when you can't find any. It takes time, a day usually, for the hirelings counter to increase or go up. Just go around and do something else and then come around again the following day.

Characters available for hire appear randomly. Sometimes you would have to wait a few days until there is a particular one available, including a healer.

Understood. I can always take my army to a church after battles if I need healing. It isn't that I'm afraid to fight without one so much as this was the 1st time I'd seen an x0 from the start for a unit type before I'd even hired one and was curious if it was a random thing that a restart would address (it didn't) or was a bug, or working as intended. I think you can hire a Mercenary healer in one of the Taverns. That was my approach in many play throughs. I would hire a Mercenary Healer at the Tavern because she did not count against my "squad size"; and, she did not cost too much (versus her value during a fight).

However, in Way Home, the first available healer would disappear if I did not hire her soon enough.

But, to each his own way of playing.
