how does this game even WORK?

what even IS the huntsman and what does he DO? whats his AI like? is he just a generic enemy that chases you until you manage to lose/hide from him?

i remember seeing the steam greenlight for this game and i asked the developer what the huntsman does and they replied, "if you're in darkness or slight darkness, the huntsman will still be able to find you" and i did not understand that....
