trainzutil.exe and saving time

Today, started the game. Steam says that first time setup is in process.
Now, trainzutil.exe is working for 5 minutes. How long i expected to wait? Or is it hanged?

Also, how long does it takes for a game to save? Yes, i know that sim is pretty detailed, but waiting for 5 minutes with no notification (and widnows saying that trainz not responding) is quite frustrating.

Have the same problem with trainzutil. It just won't start. Also when I try to start the game via SteamApps/common/TS2012/Trainz.exe it says "Unable to communicate with Steam. Please ensure that the Steam Client is running."

Fix that, Steam, I've paid 50€ for the game I can't play now!

I have this problem too. Oh look YET ANOTHER Steam game that does not work properly! Seriously how do they get away with this? I'd try their support but it usually takes them ten weeks to get back to you! Useless!

I had the same issue today but I just left it going and eventually it sorted itself out. I'm afraid I couldn't say how long but it gets there eventually =P.

this process is required to update a number of files. It takes about 30 minutes on my PC, and possibly an hour or so on some hardware. Just be patient and let it run.

Very odd thing (my fault) happened with mine. I got the update (had everything backed up prior) started the game and let it do the "first time setup". Got into it, immediately did an extended database repair and got into the game.

It then downloaded and installed the bought items. I went back to the content manager and installed a few new locos. I tried to restart the game but it started rebuilding its asset file from the beginning again.

It showed not responding and even though my resource monitor showed it was still working, I closed it and now ended up getting the first time setup again.

So, moral: Let it run no matter how stuck it looks. If your truly wondering if it's running check out your resource monitor in task manager.

Dear developer, i would like to suggest make some type of progress bar when saving as when saving there is totally no Windows messages dispatching so widnows considers that the game is not responding.

ok ive just looked under announcements and in the service pack update it does say you need to leave it over an 1hr to rebuild the database

Yep, takes a while, even moreso if, like in my case, you hadn't defragged in quite some time

We are currently testing a new build which will bring the Database Update inside the game client so that we can display the progress. We could not do this via the steam system as we have no way of editing their dialogue boxes. Those of you that have already performed the Database update will not have to do it again.
