How am I supposed to win with the Necroa plague?
Before you all label me as a 'noob who didn't try hard enough", hear me out.

I tried to tackle this plague in a lot of different ways, but everything seems to fail, even on normal it seems to be an impossible task.

I tried going for a lot of sympthons early, I tried spreading out before unleashing the undead, I tried to destroy Zcom as soon as they set up, but none of that worked.

Then I looked at some guides and youtube videos, and even those were little to no help, am I the only one having so much troube here, or is the Necroa plague just a bit UP?

Edit: Hi, this is me 4 years later, I've figured it out meanwhile :3:

To be honest Necroa can be a little difficult. Your main goal is to spread the zombies using the hoard abillity as far as you can.

AS SOON as Zcom appears send as much zombies as you can to that country so you can shut them down ASAP.

In the beginning of the game, focus on transmissions. Devolve ANY symptoms immediately if you mutate. Without symtoms you're invisible. Now, the cost to devolve will gradually increase, as will the rate at which you mutate. I recommend only devolving a maximum of 4 times before moving to the next phase. Also, patience is a virtue; Don't buy every single transmission you can get your hands on, only go for the most important such as water and air AND STAY AWAY FROM THE ANIMAL TRANSMISSIONS. The animal transmissions increase the rate you mutate, which is the exact opposite of what you want. Without the humans seeing you, you can spread everywhere without any problems. However, with only the basic transmissions you will spread very slowly. This is where the patience comes in.

If you have infected atleast 60% of the world, and have already devolved 4 times, it's time to reveal yourself once the next mutation occurs. Start with the Insomnia symptom and work your way towards the zombies, but don't get the zombie symptom just yet. The insomnia tree slows research speed immensely. Milk DNA until the research bar reaches 50%. At this point you should have a good amount of DNA saved up. Get the zombie symptom and the million sized horde ability. Spread your zombies to any uninfected countries, and keep an eye out for Zcom. They normally start in Sweden, unless it's already been 50% infected. Once every country is infected, go down the symptom tree and then take a right. Then up and all the to the end of the big boned symptom. Your zombies are now extremely strong.

Once Zcom shows up, flood them with your newly upgraded zombies. Again, only the million horde ability will really do any damage. Keep upgrading your zombies, it doesn't really matter what you get at this point, just keep an eye on the symptoms that increase your severity by a lot. With Zcom gone, you should be able to wipe out the rest of humanity (unless all your zombies starved while you were focusing on the Zcom fort xD)

I have followed the instructions above countless times and only beat it on normal once. I'm now trying to beat brutal and Its gotten to the point of just not being fun anymore. It feels like something I just have to do to be able to progress and unlock other stuff wether I want to or not.

Necroa Virus can be tricky. Just remember when you lose, ask your self why you lost. Perhaps you couldn't infect everyone, losing to the cure...anything. Just try different strategies, you'll get it! You may want to try playing the game on a slower speed so you have more time to think about what you wanna do.

You only need to beat it on normal to unlock the next virus. If you meant unlocking traits, you can simply go back to any other virus on any difficulty and unlock all the traits that way. If you wanted to, you could do the bacteria scenario on casual several times and unlock most the traits.

Edit: As I finished typing, I just remembered that the Necroa virus has it's own traits. So yes, you do need to do the Necroa Virus multiple times. Sorry about that.

time after time its like the game just stops. I get almost all of humanity destroyed and then the DNA points just stop coming and nothing happens anymore. I end up just quitting out of complete bordom. Im stairing at the screen just watching the death toll slowly rise and not actualy playing at all.

Here's a way to beat Necroa easily. It's not the fastest but it focuses on maximizing your DNA generation and minimizing Z-COM potential.

Genes:
Catalytic Switch
Darwinist
Aerocyte
Urbophile
Spliced Activation (optional)

Start in Saudi Arabia.

Buy these transmissions:
Zoonotic Shift
Rodent 1
Blood 1
Air 1
Segmented Genome

Wait until the cure progress is about 50%. If you're playing on Normal, your world should look something like this: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=259562502
Buy these symptoms (Note: Fever and Photophobia should have already mutated for free. If not, buy them first):
Delirium
Cytopathic Reanimation
Anaerobic Resuscitation
Enhanced Motor Control
Masticatory Tension
Anabolic Boost
Peptide Surge
Dermal Calcification

Buy these abilities:
Horde Instinct
Horde Mentality
Horde Vocalisation
Horde Pheremones

Start spreading to island countries that have no zombies and also send a horde from China to Russia and from Turkey (once it has at least 20 million zombies) to Central Europe. When Z-COM pops up, send a horde to that country from a country that has at least 20 million zombies. If Z-COM spreads to another country, sent a horde to that country from a country that has at least 20 million zombies. Start buying more combat symptoms to crush Z-COM:
Cranial Elephantitis
Bone Dysplasia
Enhanced Sensory Integration
Temporal Lobe Manipulation
Hyperosmia
Adrenal Surge
Lumbrical Hypertrophy
Acidic Reflux
Naja Mortis
Autothysis

I agree that most of the issue with this type comes from running out of DNA a bit early. I'm not saying it shouldnt be tricky, but in the order that things are, beating Necroa on normal in order to unlock progression shouldn't feel this inaccessible.
Stinkyjim May 12, 2014 @ 9:10pm
As I said before, only spend DNA on the things you absolutely need, in order to conserve DNA.
As for more DNA, using the Catalytic Switch gene will allow you to continue gaining DNA throughout the rest of the game, even when there are only two countries left. This is because those two countries constantly send planes to eachother, initiating a blue bubble, which was previously useless unless you had Catalytic Switch. Each bubble is worth 1-4 DNA.

Necroa made me stop playing this game, I feel it doesn't react as it should by logic. Zombies dying near that instantly... Deads mostly don't become zombies. Seriously, what can stop a Zombie invasion ? Easier to fight than fever for the scientists. I just came in the forum to see if there a new update that change this, just saw this post complaining about the same plague that made me give up. I like challenge, but I this is nosense for me, there are good ideas spread in this disease but no pleasure to play like that.

If you take a few transmissions that increase mutation chance, you'll mutate enough symptoms to cover the cost and you'll boost infectivity a little. For example, last game I played, I took Zoonotic Shift, Insect and Segmented (total cost: 33). I randomly mutated 5 symptoms before the cure hit 50%: Insomnia, Hyper Salivation, Fever, Photophobia and Coma (total cost: 34). A couple of symptoms also randomly mutated after I had zombies, so those three transmissions more than paid for themselves.

This is how I did it

Use creationist, to prevent mutation, as it costs DNA points to devolve.
Start with Saudi Arabia, India, or China
Upgrade transmissions that DON'T increase mutation chance.
Prioritize cold resistance over heat resistance
Build points until a majority of the world (>70%) is infected
Go straight to zombies, get horde mentality and upgrades that increase combat effectiveness and horde population (DON'T do this if Italy, Greenland, or Iceland are not infected, as zcom forces in those areas are almost impossible to kill)
If zcom appears, attack them with your million-zombie army
Don't forget to move hordes to uninfected countries
Attack zcom countries until they die and about now, most countries will be 100% dead or infected

Here's my Mega Brutal tutorial. It's not particularly difficult if you just think a bit. Took me two tries to figure the method out, and the first try was just confirming that my old method didn't work after the Z-Com buff.

This worked great, thank you so much!
